Mission

Animal-Kind International supports animal welfare organizations in poor countries, mainly in Africa, secondarily in Latin America/Caribbean. We raise money so they can spay/neuter, shelter, feed, and provide vet care for unwanted animals and in cruelty cases; conduct in-school and community humane education; and provide donkey and horse welfare programs. We support our Partner Organizations through ongoing disbursements so they always have a reliable source of funds and can focus on animal care and welfare. We reach and strengthen other animal welfare organizations through our annual Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, providing funds for one-time projects based on a successful proposal. Through our Friendly Audit Program, we provide virtual volunteer mentors who provide technical and organizational support to target animal welfare organizations in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean.

  • Program Area 2: We started our grant program in 2018 so that we could help more organizations, beyond our Partner Organizations. In 2025, in addition to Africa-based organizations, Latin American/Caribbean organizations were eligible to apply to our grant program for the first time. Our 2025 Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program (8th annual grant program, previously known as the Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program) awarded small grants to 13 animal welfare organizations in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. In Africa we awarded 8 grants: two in South Africa, two in Tanzania, one in Kenya, one in Cameroon, one in Namibia, and one in Israel. In LAC we awarded 5: one each in Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Honduras, and Haiti. For 1st year grantees, grant size was limited to $2000 plus any additional funds donated and designated by specific supporters. For grantees who successfully completed a grant previously, the grant ceiling was $3000 (plus additional designated donations). The grants supported projects such as: spay/neuter and vet care in impoverished communities; new roof, drainage, and insulation at a cat sanctuary; horse and donkey care including chemical castration, feeding, and vet care; vaccinations and vet care for shelter cats and and dogs; construction of a donkey shelter to house donkeys rescued from the illegal skin trade, and training animal health care students in dog and cat welfare and rescue. We awarded grants to: Tanzania Small Animal Veterinary Organization and Animal Smile-Tanzania; Blind Love and SPCA-Grahamstown, both in South Africa; INADES formation in Kenya; Animal Welfare Society-Cameroon; Triglav Trust in Namibia; Starting Over in Israel; Huellas de Amor, Colombia; Rivadeneira Sterilization Center, Ecuador; Vida de Gatos, Chile; Amor y Abrigo, Honduras, and Fondation Alliance Verte, Haiti.
