We raise money for them and raise visibility of their work. We track their use of AKI funds and provide this information to our supporters. We support our Partner Organizations through ongoing disbursements ensuring that they have enough funds to carry out their programs. We also sponsor an annual Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, which supports grant projects based on the submission of a successful proposal. Thirdly, we provide technical and administrative assistance to our partners and grantees, and to other target organizations to help strengthen African and Latin American/Caribbean animal welfare organizations.</ActivityOrMissionDesc>

<MissionDesc>Animal-Kind International supports animal welfare organizations in poor countries, mainly in Africa, secondarily in Latin America/Caribbean. We raise money so they can spay/neuter, shelter, feed, and provide vet care for unwanted animals and in cruelty cases; conduct in-school and community humane education; and provide donkey and horse welfare programs. We support our Partner Organizations through ongoing disbursements so they always have a reliable source of funds and can focus on animal care and welfare. We reach and strengthen other animal welfare organizations through our annual Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program, providing funds for one-time projects based on a successful proposal. Through our Friendly Audit Program, we provide virtual volunteer mentors who provide technical and organizational support to target animal welfare organizations in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean.</MissionDesc>

In 2025, in addition to Africa-based organizations, Latin American/Caribbean organizations were eligible to apply to our grant program for the first time. Our 2025 Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program (8th annual grant program, previously known as the Africa-Based Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program) awarded small grants to 13 animal welfare organizations in Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean. In Africa we awarded 8 grants: two in South Africa, two in Tanzania, one in Kenya, one in Cameroon, one in Namibia, and one in Israel. <ExplanationTxt>Our Partner Organizations are required to complete an expenditure tracker which describes how they spent AKI disbursements. For each disbursement (each Partner receives a disbursement at least twice a year, sometimes more often, depending on need and donations received). The expenditure tracker is required to be submitted to the AKI Director after a Partner expends a full disbursement. The Board reviews each expenditure tracker. A follow-on disbursement is not sent until a completed and approved expenditure tracker is received. On a regular basis (which can be as often as a few times a week to once a month, depending on the Partner and the amount of funds we disbursed), our Partners are required to send pictures and information about their use of AKI funds. Our grantees (Animal Welfare Organization Grant Program) are selected using a rigorous process where we organize an external review committee to review proposals (in 2025, we had a 13-member review committee, all independent reviewers), the committee's ratings, as well as the proposals are reviewed by the board, and we use technical area experts to supplement this, when needed. The winning grant recipients are required to submit a monthly grant progress report (using the template we provide, which includes text, financial info, and a section for photo documentation) until their grant project is completed (this could be 1 monthly report or as many as 6 monthly reports; all grant projects are required to be completed within 6 months). The Board also visits our Partners and Grantees when possible (as part of other trips, so this is not funded through AKI) and we request our supporters who are visiting to send us brief reports.</ExplanationTxt>
