Mission
Beach Dog Rescue of Costa Maya Mexico, Inc. was formed with a single purpose - to help end the suffering of homeless dogs in Costa Maya, Mexico. Tens of thousands of homeless, starving, sick and injured street dogs struggle to survive on the streets of Mexico. There are very few governmental services for street dogs. They continue to reproduce exponentially. Treatable, contagious diseases are widespread as a product of being unvaccinated. Their suffering is enormous, heartbreaking and preventable. Our purpose is to provide the means to eliminate as much suffering as possible. Through public donations and grants, the organization is able to fund spay/neuter clinics, vaccinations and medical treatment by local licensed vets. Beach Dog Rescue provides temporary housing in our shelter/sanctuary until dogs are healthy enough to be transported to US or Canadian non-profit rescues, where they will ultimately be adopted into loving homes.
Program accomplishments
- Dog Kennels. Due to the extreme heat and humidity in Yucatan, Mexico, we remodeled part of the sanctuary to offer the dogs a better quality of life. Often dogs come into care with health issues, and the heat puts them at great risk. We added 3 new living spaces that prioritized shade and proper airflow. The remodeled space includes a new quarantine area for sick dogs as well. We have upgraded some fencing, roofing and plumbing in other areas of the shelter.Expenses $28,412 · grants $8,121
- Vet Care - We help dogs with vet care in two ways. First, through partnerships with low-cost vets, we sponsor emergency and routine medical care for homeless dogs and dogs with low-income owners. Street dogs are susceptible to diseases, being run over and intentionally hurt by humans. We are often the line between life and death. Low-income owners often love their pets but struggle to afford basic care such as vaccines and parasite treatment. We love to help people who love their pets. Second, we provide all dogs that come into our care with complete vet care before they are put up for adoption - including but not limited to: spay/neuter, blood analysis, 4dx testing, fecal and transmissible disease testing, heartworm treatment. Street dogs are often very ill, and we prioritize their health.Expenses $26,915
- Spay and Neuter Campaigns - Street dogs in Mexico are everywhere. They live on street corners, under cars, at gas stations and on the beach. Spaying and neutering are the only way to end the cycle of birth, suffering and death on the street. To date we have sponsored 9,835 surgeries - with 2,405 occurring in 2025.Expenses $19,416 · grants $5,879
