Mission

Family Values for Life partners with families to cultivate communities that are spiritually empowered, mentally alert, physically fit and financially secure. Together we build capacities for families to network and leverage resources.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • U-Turn 180 Youth Program - family meals, homework help, recreation, and creative arts workshops, camps during the summer, and facilitated discussion groups for high school students. This program provided a safe and supportive environment for 268 unduplicated youth in grades K-12 during 25. This included 36 after-school sessions offering homework help and social/emotional skill-building, 40 K-5th graders, Sept-May. Evenings were also extended to offer music/children's choir activities. We also offered 30 "Chatterbox" facilitated discussions and academic support for high school students. --Reading program - as part of the youth program, we provide elementary students with before/after-school and 6-week summer reading support. 100% of students who attended 2025 Summer Reading Academy experienced an increase in literacy skills (and the rest maintained skills). This program is primarily supported by multi-year funding from Saint Paul Children's Collaborative. --Back to School event - provides free backpacks with school supplies and connects families to community partners. In 2025, Family Values for Life distributed 3,500 backpacks filled with supplies (in-kind value of $262,500). We also offered 1,500 hot meals, 15,015 pounds of produce, and 1,580 pounds of donated new clothes (socks, t-shirts, pants, pj's) at the event. In-kind value of clothing donations was $98,190.10. We served approximately 1050 families who had access to many community partners and other resources, including bike helmets from the St. Paul Police Bike Truck, Water Truck from SPRWS, bounce house and inflatable water slide, Double Dutch crew from 825 Arts, and more. More than 115 volunteers offering 450 volunteer hours helped make this event possible.
    Expenses $98,018
  • Jump Start to the New You - helps single heads-of-household (mostly women) build skills, access resources, and become engaged parents, providers, and community members through weekly workshops and periodic events. We provided 75 Jump Start to the New You workshops for 73 regular participants. --Beauty for Ashes - grief and trauma counseling and support for women through individual and group settings. We offered 48 Beauty for Ashes group sessions (healing circle conversations) Approximately 50 women participated.
    Expenses $39,687
  • -Family support - through case management and community referrals. It is our aim to be a "one-stop shop" for families in crisis, either by providing services or connecting them to what they need. In partnership with Ramsey County, we provided Family-Centered Coaching/case management to 42 families during 2025. The family coach made 408 referrals to additional families for other community resources. Our M Health Fairview Cultural Broker held 70 families (cases) over the last year. 580 additional families (encounters) received resource referrals (encounters). --Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies - provides prenatal and postpartum education and support. 40+ women participated in multiple workshop series. We held two group baby shower + doula showcase events that included information and equipping new moms with baby supplies, along with an additional graduation event. In 2025, 44 moms participated in at least one workshop series, and either have graduated or are due to graduate from the program. A second family coach works with the women in this program.
    Expenses $350,690
  • Basic needs support - 5x/week (and by appointment) food shelf, quarterly household supplies distribution, holiday food boxes, and crisis financial assistance. This program has expanded significantly, including the 2024 opening of two resource centers at Dayton's Bluff and Bruce Vento Elementary schools, open five days per week and an additional resource center opened in 2025 at the SOL Center. We provided 400+ Thanksgiving food boxes and served a Christmas meal to 75 families (100 children received Christmas gifts) in 2025. At just our onsite food shelf, Family Values for Life has distributed nearly 2 million pounds of food in 2025 with the resource centers, onsite food shelf, and holiday programs.
    Expenses $72,612
  • Community outreach events and goals- help build community and counter the social isolation felt by so many in poverty. In 2025, personal development and support events included Women's Conference (~150 attendees +staff, volunteers and vendors, speakers, and children etc) and I Heart Mom Mother's Day event (~90 attendees). We also offered three family-focused events, including: Family Roller Skating, Trunk or Treat Halloween event (250 attendees), Christmas event (family meal + gifts to 100 children). To support family success, we have adopted specific basic needs program targets for the year: --4,000-5,000 families (20,000 individuals) will visit the food shelf and receive immediate basic needs support plus information about ongoing Family Values for Life programs that support financial stability. --2 million pounds of food will be distributed through our food assistance programs --200 families will access crisis financial assistance to improve short-term financial stability. --1,050 families visit school-based resource centers As part of our ongoing work to build family stability, we also anticipate the following results: --200 families will access crisis financial assistance to improve financial stability. --60 heads-of-household (mostly women) will participate in Jump Start to the New You workshops; 95% of regular attendees will have increased financial literacy and 60% will take at least one self-identified action step to improve family financial stability. --40 families will identify goals for family stability and will receive support in progressing toward those goals through the Family-Centered Coaching process. We anticipate that each family will achieve at least one of their goals.0
