Mission
Work with private and public partners to create and sustain a vibrant, beautiful and welcoming urban public park in Harrisonburg's city center for the economic benefit and quality of life enhancement of the downtown district, larger Harrisonburg community and central Shenandoah Valley region.
Program accomplishments
- During the reporting year, the organization made meaningful strides toward bringing its vision of a public park to life. It was a year of thoughtful progress establishing key groundwork, building relationships, and preparing for whats ahead. A strong focus was placed on project planning, increasing public awareness, and ensuring readiness to meet regulatory requirements. Along the way, we connected with the community in intentional and engaging ways, helping people understand the vision and inviting them to be part of it. This growing awareness built genuine support and momentum. At the same time, the organization took important steps behind the scenes, working closely with relevant governing bodies to navigate the application and approval processes essential to advancing the project. These combined efforts created the conditions needed to begin public fundraising later in the year. Looking ahead, Downtown Harrisonburg Park also began exploring practical and sustainable approaches to site construction, including potential public-private partnership models (PPEA), to help ensure the parks future is both effective and enduring.
