Mission

TO DESIGN, DEVELOP, PLAN AND CARRY OUT EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, PRIMARILY FOR HAWAII SCHOOL CHILDREN AND ESPECIALLY FOR THOSE OF NATIVE HAWAIIAN DESCENT.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • THE MAHOPE O KE KULA KE AO MAU ANA (A CONTINUATION OF LEARNING AFTER SCHOOL) PROGRAM INSPIRES NATIVE HAWAIIAN STUDENTS AND THEIR FACILITATORS TO ACHIEVE ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN MATH AND SCIENCE THROUGH THE EXPERIENCE OF HAWAIIAN CULTURAL VALUES AND PRACTICES WITH HANDS-ON LEARNING THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL YEAR, INTERSESSION, AND SUMMER BREAKS. IN 2023, THIS PROJECT WAS ENHANCED AS THE MAHOPE O KE KULA KE AO MAU ANA: KE KAA ENEHANA (STEAMOBILE) PROJECT AND EMBEDDED STEAMOBILE, TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE (TIC) AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL) COMPONENTS INTO THE EXISTING PROJECT.
    Expenses $1,761,823
  • THE GOAL OF THE KU AALII PROJECT IS TO INSPIRE STUDENTS FROM NATIVE HAWAIIAN COMMUNITIES TO ACHIEVE SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS BY BUILDING RESILIENCE THROUGH CULTURE-BASED TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE (TIC) EDUCATION AND THE EXPERIENCE OF HAWAIIAN CULTURAL VALUES AND PRACTICES WITH HANDS-ON LEARNING DURING CLASS, AFTER SCHOOL HOURS, AND OVER INTERSESSION AND SUMMER BREAKS.
    Expenses $654,217
  • THE MALA KUPONO PROJECT ESTABLISHES SCHOOL/COMMUNITY GARDENS THAT PROVIDE K-12 STUDENTS WITH FRESH FOOD AND A LEARNING PLATFORM FOR STEM, AGRICULTURE/SUSTAINABILITY, CULTURE, AND HEALTHY EATING. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO INCREASE STUDENTS' ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND MEET THEIR IMMEDIATE BASIC HEALTH NEEDS, WHILE ALSO RE-ENERGIZING INTEREST IN AGRICULTURE/SUSTAINABILITY AND ITS IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE LIVES OF THE HAWAIIAN COMMUNITY.
    Expenses $228,564
  • THE MALAMA IHO PROJECT SUPPORTS THE SOCIAL SERVICE DISASTER RECOVERY AND RESILIENCE FOCUS AREA BY DEVELOPING A COHORT OF SKILLED TRAINERS WITHIN THREE MAUI-BASED AGENCIES TO PROVIDE TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE (TIC) TRAINING TO SERVE FAMILIES AND COMMUNITIES AFFECTED BY THE MAUI FIRES. IN ADDITION, THE MALAMA MAU PROGRAM WAS STARTED IN 2025 TO ENHANCE EDUCATOR WELLNESS, FOSTER TRAUMA-INFORMED LEADERSHIP, AND STRENGTHEN CULTURALLY GROUNDED STEM LEARNING AT LAHAINA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL THROUGH A DUAL-IMPACT STRATEGY. THIS MODEL IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO SUPPORT BOTH PARTS OF THE SCHOOL COMMUNITY: EDUCATORS AND ADMINISTRATORS RECEIVE DEDICATED TIME AND RESOURCES TO ADDRESS GRIEF, TRAUMA, AND PROFESSIONAL BURNOUT, WHILE STUDENTS CONTINUE TO GET HIGH-QUALITY INSTRUCTION FROM SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS TRAINED IN NATIVE HAWAIIAN PRACTICES AND STEM CONTENT. HOAKEA IS A STATE-WIDE PROJECT TO GIVE EVERY STUDENT IN HAWAII AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH THE WAA (CANOE), PEOPLE, PLACES, AND STORIES OF THEIR COMMUNITY. IT IS A MULTI-DAY EVENT HELD IN EAST HAWAII TO BRING STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, FAMILIES, WAA ORGANIZATIONS, CULTURAL PRACTITIONERS, AND AINA PARTNERS TOGETHER THROUGH HANDS-ON LEARNING EXPERIENCES ROOTED IN THE COMMUNITIES THEY CALL HOME. HOAKEA HELPS STUDENTS UNDERSTAND WHO THEY ARE, WHERE THEY COME FROM, AND HOW THEY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO HAWAII'S FUTURE.
    Expenses $463,131
