We finalized our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, secured a Unique Entity ID (UEI), and completed the transition of the Main Street program from city administration to an independently managed, board-led organization. We launched a new brand identity and established volunteer-led committees focused on key areas of our mission. Internal systems for fundraising, finance, and communications were also developed to support long-term sustainability.Several strategic grants were awarded in 2024, including the Virginia Main Street Downtown Improvement Grant (DIG), a technical assistance grant for fund development, and the Small Area Planning (SmArP) grant funded by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (VADHCD). These grants supported the creation of the Old Town 2045 Master Plan, strategic planning efforts, and resource development to build out the organizations capacity.By the close of 2024, Friends of Old Town had established strong relationships with community partners, increased public visibility, and positioned the organization for the launch of major community programming, revitalization projects, and expanded volunteer engagement in 2025.
