Mission

Cure MAPT FTD increases awareness of the brain disease commonly known as frontotemporal dementia (FTD), of the importance of genetic testing, and specifically of the disease caused by a mutation of the MAPT (microtubule-associated protein tau) gene. Through regular meetings with our volunteer Scientific Advisory Board and active members, we ensure open communication, strong advocacy, and unwavering support for the MAPT community in an effort to find a cure. We actively participate in medical and scientific conferences that are focused on the genetics of FTD and dementia-related issues. Cure MAPT FTD advocates for MAPT-specific trials and access to other FTD gene-specific trials. Currently there are no interventional, drug or gene therapy trials that are available for MAPT patients, regardless of symptom status. We actively participate in key scientific conferences worldwide, building vital connections with researchers and fostering collaboration.

Program accomplishments

  • We significantly increased awareness of the brain disease commonly known as frontotemporal dementia ("FTD"), created by a mutation of the MAPT (or Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau) by actively participating, speaking at and/or sponsoring conferences that are focused on dementia. The conferences included the Alzheimer's Drug Discovery Foundation's first annual Scientific Summit, Palm Beach, FL, the Tau Global 2025 Conference in London, England, the AFTD Education Conference, in Denver, Colorado, and the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) in Toronto, CA.
    Expenses $12,846
  • We participated in a FDA Patient Listening Session in May 2025 which gave MAPT FTD persons and caregivers a direct platform to share their lived experiences with federal regulators and the research community. We advocated at the session, as well as at conferences, and throughout the year with the global scientific and pharma community, for MAPT-specific trials and access to other FTD gene-and tau-specific trials. To accelerate this progress, we've launched a global survey and HIPPA compliant database of individuals with MAPT mutations, making it easier for scientists to identify potential participants for clinical trials.
    Expenses $9,720
  • As part of our mission, we provided both personal and organizational support to FTD patients and their families. This included support-group meetings, educational materials, genetic testing information, conference reimbursement, and opportunities to interface with the broader scientific community.0
