Program accomplishments

  • REI/TPL Grant grant money originally from REI to the Trust for Public Land went to support Project Nature. Project Nature is education and supportive resources for pediatric primary care practices to promote time in nature to their patients/patient families during the well child visits. We spent and will be spending (2024 was planning and 2025 was implementation)the majority of our award on coordinating this intervention ( Project Manager, who is a consultant), nature toys, printed material (formatting, printing), shipping materials, and enhancing our websites to support both practices accessing online resources and families accessing these. In addition, parks departments near the pediatric primary care practices provided specific support.

  • UW Population Health Grant grant money was awarded to Dr. Pooja Tandon and her research group to support the implementation of Project Nature. Funds came to BSW from her team at the Seattle Childrens Research. BSW accepted an award from the Norcliffe Foundation to support her Earth Wilders - an after-school mental health curriculum that teaches social-emotional skills through the completion of an ecosystem restoration project. This was in partnership with New Futures Afterschool program, run through Southwest Youth & Family Services, and is coordinated by the Environmental Science Center at Seahurst Park.
