Mission

who would otherwise face neglect or death. Through spay/neuter programs, pet retention services, and community education, CAPS addresses the root causes of animal homelessness while protecting public health and strengthening the human-animal bond across Churchill County.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Churchill Animal Protection Society (CAPS) rescues homeless and at-risk dogs and cats in rural Churchill County, providing veterinary triage, vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchipping, and safe housing until placement. As one of the only animal welfare organizations in the region, CAPS addresses critical gaps caused by limited resources and geographic isolation. In 2025, CAPS admitted 71 animals (43 dogs, 28 cats) and delivered medical care, behavioral support, and daily enrichment. CAPS also partnered with the City of Fallon Animal Control to strengthen coordinated response to community animal welfare needs.
    Expenses $124,077 · revenue $257,225
  • CAPS places animals into permanent homes through adoption programs and community engagement initiatives, including shelter visits, spend a day/weekend with a dog experiences, and off-site interactions that promote bonding between animals and potential adopters. In 2025, CAPS facilitated 95 adoptions (58 dogs, 37 cats), significantly reducing shelter overcrowding and easing pressure on municipal resources. CAPS also operates a foster program for animals requiring medical recovery or behavioral rehabilitation, improving adoption readiness and long-term success. Each successful placement reduces euthanasia risk and strengthens families across Fallon and Churchill County.
  • To reduce shelter intake at its source, CAPS provides preventative services and community education, including: Low- and no-cost spay/neuter vouchers (SNAP program) Microchipping and identification clinics Pet care education and outreach events In 2025, CAPS also launched a Pet Pantry Program, distributing 2,346 pounds of pet food (1,869 dog / 477 cat), enabling families to retain their pets during financial hardship and preventing unnecessary surrender. Together, these programs address the root causes of pet homelessness and promote responsible pet ownership across the community.
  • CAPS relies heavily on volunteer support to sustain operations. In 2025, volunteers contributed over 415 service hours, including more than 125 military personnel from Naval Air Station Fallon. Volunteers support daily animal care, transportation, facility maintenance, and socialization, significantly expanding organizational capacity. CAPS also partners with local high schools to provide youth volunteer opportunities, fostering long-term community engagement in animal welfare.
