Mission
Lieder Alive! expands the scope and relevance of Lieder music by promoting, developing, and educating the public on Lieder (art songs).
Program accomplishments
- In 2024-25 Lieder Alive's annual Liederabend Series branched out to performances in two new venues, the Old First Presbyterian Church in San Francisco, CA and Maybeck's Masterpiece Church in Berkeley, CA; and featured ten artists performing German Lieder, multi-lingual vocal repertoire, and instrumental chamber music to an expanded audience of 810.Expenses $21,253 · grants $3,000
- Recording Projects: In 2024/25, Lieder Alive and San Francisco based classical recording engineer and producer, Matt Carr, have been working with Esther Rayo and Peter Grunberg in preparation for a CD recording of Classical Spanish songs to be launched in November 2025. It is expected that this CD release will expand Lieder Alive's audience to an estimated number of 1500.Expenses $31,606
- The Neue Lieder Commissioning Program: Led by Composer-in-Residence Kurt Erickson, this program is temporarily on hiatus as the organization focuses on commissioning and presenting composers and artists from historically disenfranchised groups and locales which might not be as familiar with Lieder music. With this intent, Lieder Alive and the San Francisco International Piano Festival jointly commissioned in 2024/25 a new song cycle by African American composer/conductor Quinn Mason using the poetry of Latinx maestra/conductor/poet Kalena Bovell.Expenses $5,172
