Mission

OPERATE A THRIFT STORE TO 'RECYCLE' DONATED CLOTHING, HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND FURNITURE. COSTS AND PRICES FOR MERCHANDISE WILL REMAIN LOW THROUGH LOWER WAGES OF STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, LOW RENT OR OVERHEAD AND COST-SAVINGS MEASURES. MILLIE'S THRIFT STORES' INCOME WILL ENABLE MILLIE'S TO CONTINUE SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY BY HELPING HOMELESS CLIENTS HAVE THE HOUSEHOLD GOODS AND FURNITURE WHEN THEY ARE READY FOR AN APARTMENT, ENABLE A FAMILY TO CLOTHE THEIR CHILDREN, PROVIDE INTERVIEW OR WORK CLOTHING AND HELP SENIORS WITH NECESSITIES. A VOUCHER PROGRAM WILL ENABLE NONPROFITS TO SEND THEIR CLIENTS TO THE STORE. MILLIE'S WILL USE THE SAVINGS TO HELP THOSE IN NEED SUCH AS TEACHERS, JOB TRAINING AND CLIENTS OF NONPROFITS.

Program accomplishments

  • OVER THE PAST YEAR, MILLIE'S THRIFT STORE HAS CONTINUED TO GROW ITS IMPACT THROUGH STRATEGIC IMPROVEMENTS, STRONG COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS, AND A CLEAR COMMITMENT TO OUR MISSION. ONE OF THE STANDOUT ACHIEVEMENTS HAS BEEN THE GROWTH OF OUR LOYALTY PROGRAM, WHICH NOW BOASTS OVER 9,000 ACTIVE MEMBERS. THIS MILESTONE REFLECTS BOTH OUR EXPANDING CUSTOMER BASE AND THE DEEP CONNECTIONS WE'VE BUILT WITH OUR REGULAR SHOPPERS. THE PROGRAM HAS BECOME AN IMPORTANT DRIVER OF REPEAT VISITS, INCREASED BASKET SIZE, AND DIRECT CUSTOMER COMMUNICATION. OUR COMMUNITY-CENTERED INITIATIVES ALSO SAW EXCITING PROGRESS. THE MILLIE'S CARES PROGRAM PROVIDED DIRECT SUPPORT TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN NEED BY DISTRIBUTING STORE CREDIT, EMERGENCY ESSENTIALS, AND DONATED GOODS. WE PARTNERED WITH SEVERAL LOCAL SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS TO ENSURE HELP REACHED THOSE FACING HOUSING INSTABILITY, JOB LOSS, OR OTHER HARDSHIPS. ADDITIONALLY, OUR COLLABORATION WITH PURDUE UNIVERSITY THROUGH THE PURDUE CAREER CLOSET HELPED PROVIDE HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS WITH PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE FOR INTERVIEWS AND INTERNSHIPS-EQUIPPING THEM WITH BOTH THE CLOTHING AND CONFIDENCE THEY NEED TO SUCCEED. OPERATIONALLY, WE MADE KEY INVESTMENTS TO STREAMLINE OUR WORKFLOW AND BETTER SERVE CUSTOMERS. MOST NOTABLY, WE INTRODUCED BARCODE SCANNING MACHINES TO SPEED UP INVENTORY PROCESSING AND IMPROVE ACCURACY AT THE POINT OF SALE. THIS HAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED WAIT TIMES AT CHECKOUT AND IMPROVED OUR ABILITY TO TRACK AND PRICE MERCHANDISE EFFICIENTLY. THE REORGANIZATION OF OUR INTAKE AND PRICING SYSTEM, COMBINED WITH THESE TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES, POSITIONED US TO HANDLE INCREASED DONATION VOLUMES WITH GREATER CONSISTENCY AND CARE.
