Mission

The organization's primary exempt purpose is to prevent avoidable blindness and improve vision and health outcomes in underserved communities by providing access to high quality eye care services to underserved communities. The organization operates a comprehensive eye care program in rural Haiti that delivers diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of eye diseases, including pediatric and neonatal care. Through clinical services, vision correction, and capacity building, the organization restores sight, prevents vision loss, and improves quality of life for individuals who otherwise lack access to care.

Program accomplishments

  • The organization is a U.S. based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to providing accessible, high quality eye care services to underserved populations in Haiti. Its programs focus on the prevention of blindness, diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease, and the delivery of essential vision care services to rural and low resource communities. During the tax year, the organization supported and continued comprehensive eye care operations in the Fond des Blancs region of Haiti, serving up to approximately 15,000 patients annually. Services include comprehensive eye examinations, management of ocular disease, pediatric vision screening, and coordination of surgical care when needed. In addition to direct clinical services, the organization supports long-term sustainability by training and mentoring local Haitian staff in clinical and operational roles, including patient intake, vision screening, and clinic support functions. These efforts are intended to strengthen local capacity and improve continuity of care. The organization also conducts pediatric vision screening programs to identify vision problems in children at an early stage and facilitate access to corrective care, with the goal of preventing avoidable vision impairment and supporting improved educational outcomes. During the tax year, the organization acquired land intended for the future development of a permanent eye care facility to ensure long-term continuity of services. The organization operates as a relatively new 501(c)(3) and is in the process of building the infrastructure necessary to support expanded and sustainable eye care delivery in Haiti. Additional Information on Expense Structure: During the tax year, certain program and operating expenses, including Haiti-based staff salaries, program operations, and training costs, were paid and managed by a separate fiscal sponsor organization under which these activities were previously conducted. As a result, these expenses are not fully reflected in this organization's financial statements for the year. The organization is in the process of transitioning from this fiscal sponsorship structure to operating independently. Beginning in 2026, the organization is assuming full responsibility for these programmatic and operational expenses as part of this transition.
  • Provides comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of eye diseases including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, infections, and trauma through a clinic in rural Haiti. Services are provided regardless of ability to pay. The program serves approximately 15,000 patients annually from a catchment population of approximately 500,000 individuals. Since 2015, more than 132,000 eye exams and over 7,000 sight saving procedures have been performed, preventing blindness and restoring vision. During the year, program activities were conducted through a fiscal sponsor, which received and expended funds on behalf of the organization. Supplemental Information: Land Acquisition: During the tax year, the organization purchased land for $30,000 to support the future development of a permanent eye care facility in Haiti.
  • Provides low cost and subsidized eyeglasses to individuals with uncorrected refractive error. Glasses are provided at minimal cost or free for those unable to pay, restoring functional vision and enabling improved educational and economic outcomes. Thousands of individuals benefit annually. During the year, program activities were conducted through a fiscal sponsor, which received and expended funds on behalf of the organization. We also trained and mentored local Haitian staff to provide eye care services, including patient intake, vision screening, clinical assistance, and program operations, supporting development of a sustainable local eye care system.
  • Provides pediatric vision care and neonatal blindness prevention, including screening approximately 1,500 premature infants annually for retinopathy of prematurity. The program also includes training of Haitian clinicians through clinical education and mentorship to support sustainable, locally delivered eye care services. During the year, program activities were conducted through a fiscal sponsor, which received and expended funds on behalf of the organization.
