Program accomplishments

  • New Mexicos largest cycling event, the 39th annual Santa Fe Century took place on May 17-18, 2025. The event kicked off Friday morning for registration in the Railyard Park with signup for multiple paved, un-timed riding options Saturday Gravelon and Gravelito, and Sunday including the Century (100 mile) ride, Half Century (50 mile) ride, Family (20 mile) ride, and the Century Kids Race. In 2025, we have a weekend-long expo and bike swap, showcasing regional cycling-related businesses as an attraction for locals and tourists alike. Given the increased popularity of riding on non-motorized pathways, we offered unpaved gravel rides at Rowe Mesa on Saturday, including the Gravelon and Gravelito. Saturday gravel event were a success bringing almost 300+ riders all over NM and 30% of them out of state. We also offered two timed events on Sunday where racers in each category can compete to win prize money: Gran and Medio Fondos. These are long-distance supported races where riders of all levels participate by pushing their limits on New Mexico's challenging courses. There was a total of 1,116 registrations online and 140 registrations on-site for a total of 1,256 across nine different cycling events with ticket sales totaling $88,733.00 70% of registrations were from participants outside of Santa Fe with 40% from out of state. Our goal for 2025 was to attract 2,000 participants between our nine cycling events, with the weekend expo/swap, free concert and events, and to increase our merchandise sales. Our rider registrations fell 22.51% and merchandise sales in 36.51%. We were down by at least 365 riders compared to previous years, which was unexpected and concerning. We believe the current political climate may have played a significant role in this decline. For example, while our gravel event maintained similar participation to last year, our traditional Century and Half Century rides saw a noticeable drop. One factor that might have influenced this is the age demographic of our road riders, many of whom are 60 years old or older. I believe this group tends to be more focused on stability, and with current uncertainty around social programs and the broader political environment, some may have chosen to hold off on discretionary spending, including travel and event participation. Its something well be looking at carefully as we prepare for the 40th edition of the Santa Fe Century next year.We still are focused in the process to reach our goal of 2000 riders in the coming years and we are developing new strategies for it. We had a total of 1,256 registrations resulting in an decrease of 22.51% from the 2024 and closer to 2023 total registration of 1,379, but still short from 1,777 registration in 2022. The average participant registration spend went up from $49.80 per person in 2022 to $62.68 in 2023 and 66.39 in 2024 to 70.64 in 2025 which is a 6.40% increase in total ticketing spend per participant. This shows that most participants registered for multiple events, and that our gradual pricing increases were effective in helping us to generate revenue. In 2025, The Santa Fe Century received $8,000 in grant funds from the Lodgers Tax Advisory Board of Santa Fe County, $5,000 Barker Realty as sponsor, and $5,000 from Santa Fe County Economic Development. - $2,242.33 Direct Mail / Postcards - $1,960 Website ads and newsletters - $3,500 Event photos - $9,172.30 Commemorative finisher medals - $3,894.77 Google ads campaigns - $588.49 Social Media advertising (Facebook) - $115 Calendar Postings - $4790.00 Water bottles Using the New Mexico Tourism Departments Event Economic Impact Calculator, we conservatively estimate that we had 2,431 total lodging nights for a direct lodging spend of $1,094,175.00 and an economic impact of $364,725 ($75/day) from restaurants. The Total Direct Economic Impact using these formulas is $1,730,709 with the Total Outside Economic Impact totaling $1,539,749 We have included the chart below to show our estimates for reporting purposes.
