Mission

Our mission is to provide leadership, education, action, and development to support the health and sustainability of honey bees, native pollinators, and the keepers of the ecosystem.

990-EZ for the year ended December 31, 2023

Program accomplishments

  • We provided educational presentations at seven educational presentations benefitting 140 individuals during the 2023 calendar year. We consulted in the planning and implementation of the Pollinator Protection Network National Retreat held in Washington, D.C. for members of 25 nonprofits.
  • We collaborated with fellow stakeholders in the MAssQuito Coalition, the Pollinator Protection Network, and the Akron Environmental Justice Coalition educating the public and policymakers concerning mosquito control, pollinator protection, the right to farm and keep bees in urban areas and protection of local wetlands. This work benefitted citizens of Massachusetts, the environmental community of pollinator stakeholders and the beekeepers and urban farmers of Summit County, Ohio, and the residents of Ward 4 and 8 in the City of Akron who are adjacent to the White Pond wetlands under threat of development. From the results of the Task Force in Massachusetts which we helped to create, we drafted legislation based on the recommendations of the Task Force to modernize the State's mosquito control program. Legislation from the Task Force recommendations was introduced in late 2022, and again in 2023. The Akron Coalition held six community listening sessions on environmental concerns of residents; we present the new Mayor with "asks" for his first 100 days to implement environmental protections and legislation. We facilitated the product development of a beekeeper from Georgia for a in-hive pest control. The concept won acceptance to the Georgia tech student contest where designs were drafted for the product. It is now in the protoype stage.
  • We provided education, outreach, and referrals through our website and social media.
  • We co-signed with fellow environmental stakeholders on 18 advocacy and education letters, petitions, and calls to action.
  • The Save White Pond wetlands neighborhood group joined with the Akron Environmental Justice Coalition to continue advocacy of environmental issues in the City.
  • Served as fiscal sponsor for the Bee Heroic project who educates the public in southwestern states about pollinator issues; and as the fiscal sponsor for Bee Collective in Columbus, OH.
