Program accomplishments

  • Alliance for Healthy Communities (AHC) is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing substance misuse, promoting mental wellness, and fostering a sustainable culture of recovery across Pasco County, Florida. Through its three primary program servicesASAP (adult coalition), STAND (youth coalition), and SAFE (suicide prevention initiative) AHC utilizes evidence-based strategies aligned with the Strategic Prevention Framework to create measurable community impact. ASAP Coalition serves as the countys adult prevention coalition, engaging all 12 sectors of the community to implement environmental prevention strategies. During the reporting period, ASAP reached an average of 12,000 to 15,000 individuals per quarter through community outreach, educational campaigns, and resource distribution. The coalition facilitated multiple large-scale initiatives, including the annual Stronger Together Recovery Walk, which engaged over 1,000 participants and integrated a second-chance employment job fair and educational outreach. On a quarterly basis, ASAP distributed approximately 2,500 to 4,000 prevention materials, including medication deactivation kits, substance use education resources, and Substance Exposed Newborn (SEN) Blossom Bags to families in NICUs. The coalition also hosted and participated in an average of 20 to 30 community events and outreach activities per quarter, strengthening cross-sector collaboration and increasing access to prevention and recovery resources across both the west and east sides of the county. STAND Youth Coalition is AHCs youth-led prevention coalition focused on empowering young people to advocate for substance use prevention and mental health awareness. STAND engaged approximately 800 to 1,200 youth per quarter through school-based outreach, social media norming campaigns, leadership development sessions, and peer-to-peer education. The program hosted its annual Youth Summit, reaching youth participants from across the county with education on substance use trends, mental health, and advocacy. Additionally, STAND facilitated ongoing youth coalition meetings and leadership sessions, averaging 10 to 15 engagements per quarter. Youth members also participated in Advocacy Day in Tallahassee, meeting with state legislators to promote prevention-focused policies. Educational materials on vaping and substance use prevention were distributed regularly, contributing to increased awareness and youth-driven prevention efforts. SAFE Suicide Prevention Coalition is AHCs suicide prevention initiative focused on reducing stigma, increasing awareness, and connecting individuals to resources. SAFE reached approximately 3,000 to 5,000 individuals per quarter through community education, awareness campaigns, social media norming campaigns and outreach events. The program participated in an average of 10 events per quarter, including candlelight vigils, training opportunities, and community conversations focused on mental health and suicide prevention. SAFE also distributed educational materials and resource information to individuals, families, and community partners, while collaborating with local organizations to expand access to support services. These efforts contributed to increased awareness of suicide prevention and strengthened community capacity to respond to mental health needs. Collectively, these three programs served an estimated 18,000 to 25,000 individuals per quarter, totaling over 70,000 individuals annually through direct outreach, educational events, social media norming campaigns and resource distribution. AHCs integrated prevention and recovery model, anchored by the All Ways Center, shared with the countys Recovery Community Organization continues to strengthen community resilience, reduce risk factors, and increase protective factors across Pasco County.
