THE LUTYENS TRUST AMERICA IS AN EDUCATIONAL CHARITY, DEDICATED TO ENHANCING APPRECIATION, STUDY, AND CONSERVATION OF THE WORKS OF SIR EDWIN LUTYENS.
Program accomplishments
- 1. OUR THIRD LUTYENS TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP WAS ANNOUNCED IN JANUARY 2025 AND AWARDED TO TRACE CHITWOOD IN APRIL 2025. HIS TOPIC IS "LUTYENS AND THE WAR CEMETERY BUILDINGS." THE PURPOSE OF THE TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP IS TO PROMOTE THE APPRECIATION AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORK OF SIR EDWIN LUTYENS BY FUNDING A PERIOD OF INDIVIDUAL TRAVEL AND RESEARCH ON THIS WORK AND LEGACY. THE LUTYENS TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP PROVIDES A $7,000.00 AWARD FOR EMERGING PROFESSIONALS IN ARCHITECTURE, ART HISTORY, INTERIOR DESIGN, HISTORIC PRESERVATION OR THE DECORATIVE ARTS. FELLOWS ARE EXPECTED TO COMPLETE A TRAVEL PROGRAM ORIENTED TOWARDS ACADEMIC RESEARCH RELATED TO ANY ASPECT OF THE WORK OF SIR EDWIN LUTYENS.2. ON MARCH 27, 2025, PAUL KNIGHT, THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2024 LUTYENS TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP PRESENTED A WEBINAR ON "HIDDEN ORDERS: THE GEOMETRIES OF EDWIN LUTYENS." THE WEBINAR, WHICH FOCUSED ON THE RESULTS OF MR. KNIGHT'S RESEARCH WAS WELL RECEIVED. THE AIM IS TO PRODUCE A WEBSITE WITH INFORMATION AND PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE OVER 800 PROJECTS DESIGNED BY LUTYENS IN HIS LIFETIME. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO COMPREHENSIVE LISTING OF ALL HIS PROJECTS, SO THIS WILL BE OF GREAT BENEFIT TO LUTYENS'S SCHOLARS AS WELL THE MANY ARCHITECTS, INTERIOR DESIGNERS, LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS, AND ARCHITECTURE ENTHUSIASTS THAT APPRECIATE LUTYENS'S WORK. A GAZETTEER AGREEMENT HAS BEEN SIGNED BETWEEN THE LUTYENS TRUST AND THE LUTYENS TRUST AMERICA WHICH WILL ALLOW FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE PROJECT.
