Mission

One of Idaho's most respected civic organizations, City Club of Boise brings people together for nonpartisan conversations, rooted in civility, about local, state, and national issues that matter. These programs help develop an informed, healthy, diverse and dynamic community.

Program accomplishments

  • The Forum Series is at the core of City Club's programming. A Forum is a moderated event featuring a speaker, or a panel of speakers, on a relevant and timely topic, with an opportunity for Q & A (submitted in writing at the event) from the audience. The moderator collects and asks the audience questions to ensure the conversation is civil. The Forums are planned and developed by volunteers and supported by our community partners across multiple fields: business and community leaders, scholars, and experts in their field - a wellspring of talent - all created by and for our community. During 2025 the organization conducted eleven (11) Forums with nearly 1,700 attendees, exploring critical topics including education policy, Idaho's healthcare system, housing, open primaries, and election information. City Club brings people together to explore community issues and hear diverse viewpoints by creating opportunities where conversations happen. The Forums are broadcast twice during the week following the event through our partnership with Boise State Public Radio, whose cumulative listening audience is estimated to be more than 75,000 listeners per week. The recording of the Forum is archived on their website: https://www.boisestatepublicradio.org/show/city-club-of-boise. This ensures statewide (and to anyone with access to the internet - global) access to the content at no cost.
    Expenses $59,770 · revenue $84,633
  • In addition to the eleven (11) Forum events described above, City Club of Boise held three (3) signature events. Annual Pundits Forum, January. This event brings together business and community leaders, students, and legislators, and a panel familiar with the Idaho legislative process to discuss the upcoming legislative session. Up to 500 guests attend, including community leaders from all sectors and elected officials from all levels of government. The Marilyn Shuler Human Rights Forum honors the life and legacy of Marilyn Shuler, a leader in the advancement of education and human and civil rights in Idaho. She championed informed citizenship built on civil discourse. This event is planned by a team of high school and college students with the support of adult mentors. Through the event planning process, students gain leadership skills and share their voices in our community. The City Club Stimpson Award for Civic Engagement is named after our founders, Dottie and Ed Stimpson, who believed that no problem was so great that it couldn't be solved by people with open minds using civil discourse. The award celebrates the work of an individual or group of individuals who exemplify that conviction.
    Expenses $67,248 · revenue $33,425
  • The organization held sixteen (16) Tours, After Hours, and Salons with over 1,360 members. These events provide an in-depth look at local history, companion community organizations, and notable meeting centers. These are also an opportunity for members to develop deeper friendships and understanding of others who might have diverse opinions. In addition, City Club of Boise celebrated 30 years of civic engagement through collaboration and civil discourse. An event was held in the Basque Quarter of Boise and various human rights and similar organization were represented in celebration.
