Mission

To provide free educational instruction. Offers programs in individual schools and multi school workshops which provide instruction in dance not as performance but as an experience in the art of various dance traditions and combines that experience with social emotional learning in encounter groups, the experience of which then informs the dance which follows.

Program accomplishments

  • Educational instruction provided in Workshop Programs. Over 2,000 students served in three workshops. The Workshops brought together students from schools located in various communities who might not otherwise have had the opportunity to connect and served to create those connections based on the knowledge gained in the encounter group; dancing together gave the students a shared joyful experience which further strengthened the newly formed connection.

  • Educational instruction provided in In-school residency programs. Over 2,000.00 students served. In school residencies are conducted in multiple schools largely serving LAUSD. The residencies include elements in individual classes similar to those in the Workshop, combining the art of dance and social emotional learning

An opportunity for students who participated, primarily in the in school residencies, to share a dance they've created for an audience of other students and friends and family. These performances of dances the students have choreographed are presented on a professional stage under the guidance of their instructors.
