Mission

We provide a platform for artists to create vibrant art experiences on the West End of Alameda that bring together local and regional audiences around the visual and performing arts. Our events and programs offer new perspectives, spark conversation, and engage with the landscape we live in.

Program accomplishments

  • West End Arts District's community programming continued to bring residents together through accessible, high-quality cultural events. The 8th Annual Blues, Brews & BBQ festival drew approximately 6,000 attendees and featured a diverse lineup of celebrated artists, including Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers and MJ's Brass Boppers. The event fostered strong community engagement, culminating in a popular second-line procession along Central Avenue. Complementing this large-scale event, WEAD hosted a series of three intimate "WEAD Salons," which provided smaller gatherings for community members to connect directly with local artists, deepen relationships, and share feedback. These salons strengthened community ties and expanded engagement with WEAD's mission.
    Expenses $60,584
  • In 2025, West End Arts District expanded its climate-focused arts programming through two major initiatives designed to educate and inspire environmental stewardship. In Plain Site, an outdoor photography festival at Alameda Point, attracted over 3,000 visitors and showcased climate-focused visual storytelling. The program extended beyond the exhibition to include community events, speaker panels, workshops, and school engagement activities serving high school, middle school, and elementary students. In addition, WEAD produced DeepDive, an immersive performance event combining projection, music, and installation art to celebrate the ocean's beauty and raise awareness about marine conservation. Together, these programs engaged diverse audiences and encouraged community dialogue and action around climate issues
    Expenses $89,831
  • West End Arts District supported local artists and arts access through fiscal sponsorship and programmatic assistance for two community-based organizations. Food Bank Players produced four theatrical performances featuring volunteer actors, raising funds for the Alameda Food Bank while providing accessible arts participation opportunities. Ozzy's Music Academy delivered music education for residents of all ages and partnered with Alameda Adaptive Arts to provide inclusive music and dance programming for individuals with disabilities. Through these partnerships, WEAD extended its mission by supporting artist development, expanding access to arts education, and fostering inclusive cultural participation
