Mission

The Public Health Council of the Upper Valley (PHC) improves the health of Upper Valley residents across New Hampshire and Vermont through shared public health initiatives and services delivered within a robust network of community stakeholders. As one of New Hampshires 13 regional public health advisory councils-and the only entity bridging public health systems across the two states-PHC fosters collaboration amoung more than 200 municipal leaders, health agencies, schools, businesses, and community partners to identify needs, share resources, and deliver effective, equitable health solutions.

Program accomplishments

  • The Public Health Council of the Upper Valley serves as a vital connector and convener, strengthening regional public health infrastructure through partnerships, education, equity initiatives, and innovation. In collaboration with municipal leaders, health providers, schools, and community organizations. PHC identifies pressing health needs and coordinates effective responses that no single entity could achieve alone. Key accomplishments include expanding community education and engagement with trusted, evidence-based health information; advancing health equity by elevating BIPOC and other marginalized voices in leadership and decision-making; strengthening municipal public health capacity through training, tools, and cross-town coordination; and supporting emerging initiatives through the Public Health Program Incubator, which provides fiscal sponsorship, technical assistance, and administrative support to promising community-led efforts. These programs improve health literacy, reduce disparities in access and outcomes, enhance emergency preparedness, and foster a more integrated, resilient public health system across the Upper Valley. By investing in partnerships, local governance, and organizational sustainability, PHC helps create a healthier, safer, more supportive region where residents, regardless of background, have the opportunity to thrive. These efforts directly address root causes of inequity such as housing, transportation, and healthcare access while building long-term community resilience.
