Mission
The Sheriff's Toy Project functions as a charitable arm of the Sacramento Sheriff's Department wherein participants of the Sheriff's Work Project spend their court ordered jail sentence making toys and refurbishing donated bicycles. Through partnerships with organizations such as YES (Youth Education Sports) and the Salvation Army, we distribute toys, bicycles and other items to children in need throughout the Sacramento region, including donations to the Mustard Seed School, a school for homeless children. The Sheriff's Toy Project also serves as a local outreach program between the Sacramento County Sheriff department and our community and provides significant relief to an overcrowded jail system, which also reduces cost for the citizens of Sacramento County.
Program accomplishments
- The Sheriff's Toy Project continued its mission in 2025 to provide hope, support, and holiday assistance to underserved families throughout our community. Beyond measurable numbers, the greatest achievement remains the compassion and generosity shared between community members, volunteers, donors, and the families we serve. Thousands of parents experienced the joy and relief of being able to provide Christmas gifts for their children, while countless residents and local businesses contributed selflessly through toy drives, volunteer service, and financial donations to support our efforts.During the 2025 holiday season, Sheriff's Toy Project served more than 1,000 families and provided Christmas assistance to over 3,300 children. In partnership with UC Davis and Shriners Children's Hospitals, 200 holiday stockings were donated to brighten the season for pediatric patients. The organization additionally assisted seven UC Davis pediatric cancer patients and their families with holiday gifts and essential support items. This year, volunteers made two special home deliveries to UC Davis pediatric patients during their final Christmas season, providing comfort and compassion to both the children and their families. To ensure assistance reaches truly deserving families, Sheriff's Toy Project partners with 11 qualifying agencies and organizations. These partnerships include five local schools, the UC Davis Cancer Center, four divisions of the Sheriff's Department, Sacramento Probation, and the H.O.T. Team.In addition to holiday programs, Toy Project volunteers participated in 46 community events and charitable efforts throughout the year.
