Program accomplishments

  • Teaching Texas History:The Pioneer Memorial Log House was constructed in 1936 in honor of the Texas Centennial celebrations in Houston. In 1986 it received a Texas State Historical Commission Marker. Located within the Log House is the Early Texas History Collection of artifacts, relics and documents relating to the early history of the Republic of Texas. Chapter members serving as docents conduct tours of the Log House monthly and upon request and give presentations on various topics of Texas history to interested groups, all at no charge.
    Expenses $44,601
  • Educational Outreach:The Chapter awards scholarships each year during the San Jacinto Day Commemorative Ceremony at the San Jacinto Monument, San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. These scholarships assist graduating high school students in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Houston who are extraordinary leaders, outstanding scholars and responsible citizens. Applicants must meet certain academic criteria to apply and their high school experience should exemplify certain standards.
    Expenses $13,500
  • Membership Activities:The Chapter currently serves approximately 300 members. Membership meetings are held nine months a year attended by members and guests. Topics of historical interest relating to Texas history are presented and discussed. One field trip a year visits a historical site. The Chapter publishes a newsletter 10 times a year and hosts a website. A yearbook and roster is published annually for members.
    Expenses $6,215
