Mission
WE USE THE HISTORY AND LESSONS OF THE HOLOCAUST TO BUILD A JUST AND CARING COMMUNITY FREE OF ANTISEMITISM AND ALL FORMS OF PREJUDICE AND BIGOTRY.
Program accomplishments
- WHEN THE HOLOCAUST CENTER WAS ESTABLISHED OVER 40 YEARS AGO, IT WAS AMONG THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN THE NATION. IT WAS FOUNDED BY VICTIMS AND WITNESSES TO THE HOLOCAUST WHO FELT A DEEP RESPONSIBILITY TO TEACH FUTURE GENERATIONS ABOUT THE ULTIMATE COST OF PREJUDICE, RACISM, AND STEREOTYPING. IN 2025, OVER 24,000 VISITORS PARTICIPATED IN PROGRAMMING PROVIDED BY THE HOLOCAUST CENTER. OUR PROGRAMS ADVANCE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. DRAWING ON THE HISTORY OF THE HOLOCAUST, WE PROVIDE THE COMMUNITY WITH LESSONS THAT INCREASE THEIR COMPASSION FOR OTHERS AND UNDERSCORE THE NEED TO APPRECIATE ETHNIC, RELIGIOUS, AND OTHER DIFFERENCES. EACH YEAR, THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS VISIT THE CENTER AND LEARN THE IMPORTANT LESSONS OF THE HOLOCAUST FROM OUR EDUCATION STAFF. THOSE WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO COME TO THE CENTER ARE OFFERED IN-CLASS PRESENTATIONS, CURRICULUM, AND OTHER CRUCIAL RESOURCES. OF OUR 24,000+ ENGAGEMENTS IN 2025, OVER 13,000 WERE K-12 STUDENTS. TEACHER EDUCATION IS CRITICAL TO OUR WORK. ALTHOUGH FLORIDA REQUIRES THAT ALL STUDENTS BE TAUGHT ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST, MANY TEACHERS FEEL UNPREPARED TO ADDRESS SUCH A COMPLEX AND DIFFICULT SUBJECT. THROUGH OUR 2025 TEACHERS INSTITUTE, WE PROVIDED 150 EDUCATORS WITH TRAINING IN APPROPRIATE HOLOCAUST EDUCATION PEDAGOGY TO SUPPORT EFFECTIVE AND RESPONSIBLE TEACHING IN THEIR CLASSROOMS. IN 2025, MORE THAN 6,600 ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN OUR UPSTANDERS PROGRAM, WHICH USES THE STORIES OF HOLOCAUST RESCUERS TO DEMONSTRATE HOW ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A LASTING DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHERS. THIS WORK DEMONSTRATES THAT WE ARE WELL POSITIONED TO CONTINUE ENGAGING LEARNERS OF ALL AGES ON ENDURING SOCIAL ISSUES CONNECTED TO THE HOLOCAUST. AS WE GROW INTO OUR NEW MUSEUM IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN ORLANDO, OUR INSTITUTION WILL SERVE AS A CENTRALLY LOCATED SPACE FOR DIALOGUE AND ACTION, PARTICULARLY ON ISSUES OF ANTISEMITISM AND PREJUDICE.Expenses $1,643,024
