Program accomplishments

  • The organization sponsored its annual citywide fishing rodeo for children ages 7-17. The recreational event gave inner city children the experience of learning to fish. Approximately 200 children benefited from the event. There were over fifty volunteers on hand to assure a safe and enjoyable outing. The children received instructions on how to bait a hook fishing techniques and how to take the fish off the hook.
  • The organization held a community game day. All ages were invited and games were available for all age groups children and adults. Food was provided and a total of 160 people attended.
  • `The organization operates a food pantry in conjunction with the Memphis Food Bank. During the summer months food is distributed twice a month and once a month during the winter months. The program serves between 70-110 families on each distribution day. Bloomfield Urban Initiative is located in an area that is considered a food desert and the services are severely needed.
