Program accomplishments

  • SENIOR REFUGEE PROGRAM (SRP): Provides ESL, exercise, fellowship, and recreational opportunities to some of our most vulnerable residents. Older people who come as refugees face the greatest challenges transitioning to a new culture, have difficulty learning English, and are often isolated. Seniors from 57 refugee countries attend morning classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, spending the morning learning English, talking with volunteers, receiving valuable health education, and interacting with each other. Seniors are also offered art classes and exercise classes such as Tai Chi and stretching.Adult Education, Arts, Health, and Community Services:adult English language programs, including the Hello English program serving refugee women; the Care & Connection program, in partnership with Georgia State University's School of Public Health, which reduces social isolation and improves mental well-being through culturally relevant group activities such as crochet, henna art, and gardening; arts and culture programming, including classes, exhibitions, cultural celebrations, and a community podcast; technology access, providing computer access, digital literacy training, and internet access in partnership with the DeKalb County Public Library System; parent advocate training; and community health and wellness workshops and resource fairs.
    Expenses $201,100 · revenue $3,400
  • Clarkston Youth Development Program:Assists and educates students, including recently arrived refugees and children from low-income families in the area, from kindergarten through 12th grade. The CCC Quiet Zones 2.0 afterschool program, sponsored by DeKalb County Youth Services, provides tutoring, homework help, STEM engagement, workforce development, and positive image exercises. The Summer STEAM Plus Camp teaches science, technology, engineering, art, writing, and math in a seven-week program engaging over 50 students ages 5 to 18, most from families at the poverty level and many recent refugees. Leaders of Tomorrow trains refugee high school students in cohorts of 10 to 20 to develop leadership skills, college and work readiness, and civic responsibility. The program also includes the Book Buddies reading and learning-loss tutoring program funded by United Way, the Youth Cycle program, and the Global Youth Ambassadors program.
    Expenses $84,600
  • Community Events and Gathering-Place Operations:The Center's historic facility serves as the primary gathering place for the Clarkston community, one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the United States. The Center makes its auditorium, meeting rooms, kitchen, and grounds available for community events, cultural celebrations, weddings, performances, television and media production, and gatherings hosted by residents, community groups, and partner organizations. In 2025 the Center hosted events serving 60,000 community members, directly furthering its mission to connect Atlanta's communities and cultures through education, recreation, and the arts. Facility-use fees charged for these events constitute program service revenue that sustains the Center's charitable programs.
    Expenses $76,700 · revenue $249,381
  • Other Program Services Food Services Program:Over half of the children residing in the Clarkston area live in poverty. The Center's food pantry, opened in September 2011, provides low-income families with food, clothes, and hygiene products throughout the week as an emergency food pantry, as well as on the first Saturday of every month.
