Mission

NAMI Georgia empowers affiliates to provide advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives.

990 for the year ended April 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • At NAMI Georgia, we believe that mental health support should be accessible to everyone-always free of charge and rooted in compassion, education, and empowerment. See Schedule O for continuationsThis year, our programs reached thousands across Georgia through multi-day classes, peer-led presentations, and support groups, ensuring that no one walks alone on their mental health journey. To meet growing demand, we certified 167 Program Leaders through 24 Train-the-Trainer events, equipping them with the tools to deliver high-quality programming in virtual, hybrid, and in-person formats. These leaders are the backbone of our outreach, facilitating 1,313 NAMI Family and Peer Support Groups that served 11,046 participants statewide. We delivered 48 educational programs to 459 participants and hosted 540 peer-led presentations, reaching 7,551 individuals with messages of hope and understanding. Our presence at 127 community events engaged an additional 3,141 participants, spreading awareness and reducing stigma across diverse communities. Our programs are designed to be inclusive and culturally responsive, serving individuals of all ages, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and socio-economic backgrounds. We responded to 1,425 Resource/Helpline calls and emails, offering personalized support and guidance when it was needed most. NAMI Georgia serves people with mental health conditions, regardless of their backgrounds. Our demographic data reflects the diversity of Georgia. Of those we served, 56% identified as female, 41% as male, and less than 2% as gender fluid. Racial and ethnic representation included 42% Black, 40% White, 6% Multi-Race, 2% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% American Indian/Alaskan Native, and less than 1% Hispanic or Latino. Age distribution ranged from 15% aged 18-24, 22% aged 25-34, 19% aged 35-44, 20% aged 45-54, 13% aged 55-64, and 8% aged 65 and older. Income data revealed that 22% of those we served earned less than $20,000 annually, underscoring the critical need for free services. We expanded key initiatives like NAMI Frontline Wellness, Sharing Hope, and Compartiendo Esperanza, training new facilitators to reach underserved communities. In partnership with Alliant Health Solutions, we launched a groundbreaking educational program for healthcare workers, addressing workplace violence and burnout-a vital step in strengthening Georgia's healthcare infrastructure. Thanks to support from SAMHSA, we exceeded grant goals by 13%, with 98% of program graduates reporting improved confidence and ability to lead. These leaders impacted 1,600 lives and provided 346 community-based referrals, demonstrating the ripple effect of our training programs.Public Awareness and Advocacy:To realize its vision of a Georgia where all affected by mental illnesses find Hope, Help and Acceptance, NAMI Georgia employs strategic annual plans to raise mental health awareness. By forging partnerships with key stakeholders in both public and private sectors, we advanced policy reforms statewide and energized our grassroots advocates. In the first year of the 2025-2026 Biennial, under the banner "Just Do It," NAMI Georgia amplified voices in mental health advocacy, contributing to the passage of 12 out of 89 historic mental health-related bills. This legislative and financial investment in Georgia's mental health infrastructure included measures for reductions in prior authorization requirements, additional provisions and resources for the Health, and Well-being of Students, increasing paths for provider licensures, addressing co-occurring disorders, and extending the Behavioral Health Reform and Innovation Commission by two years. Our advocacy efforts were robust: NAMI Georgia staff and affiliate leaders hosted seven NAMI Smarts classes, training 45 eager advocates. Over 1,100 advocates participated in a virtual Mental Health Day at the Capitol, showing their support for mental health for all. This year, NAMI Georgia facilitated 30 constituent meetings with legislators, a 50% increase over last year. Additionally, our "Just Do It" initiative led to 16,500 Act Now Actions taken through Quorum connecting people with their legislators, sharing real-time advocacy updates and facilitating grassroots-based support for mental health.Affiliate Development and Member Resources: NAMI Georgia welcomed NAMI Paulding as the 23rd affiliate in Georgia and saw affiliate-based programming grow by 2%. In addition, NAMI Georgia received interest from four additional counties across Georgia who are in the process of starting a NAMI in their neighborhood. NAMI Georgia staff supports 198 volunteer affiliate leaders across 23 affiliates statewide, serving approximately 1,197 members. This year, we continued our Leadership NAMI Georgia curriculum, providing development training for affiliate leaders and emerging leaders. These leaders receive comprehensive training in leadership, finance, procedures, marketing, group dynamics, and resource research. They also stay informed with regular updates on advocacy initiatives, program opportunities, and best practices. In Fall 2024, NAMIWalks Georgia united 1,035 participants across 163 teams, raising $308,525-with 50% of funds reinvested locally. Recognized as a Top 10 NAMIWalks event, this celebration of community and resilience showcased the power of collective action and the shared belief that mental health matters.
