THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE DIPLOMA RECEIVED BY CHILDREN WHO GRADUATE FROM SCHOOLS NOT OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED BY THE JAPANESE EDUCATION MINISTRY.THEREFORE, THEY CANNOT BE ADMITTED TO JAPANESE UNIVERSITIES. FOR CHILDREN OF JAPANESE DESCENT WHOSE PARENTS ARE TEMPORARILY LOCATED ABROAD,THE NEED TO CONFORM TO THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM OF THE HOME COUNTRY IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. TO AVERT POTENTIAL PROBLEMS, SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF JAPANESE NATIONALS IS AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY. THE NEWPORT NEWS JAPANESE SCHOOL WAS INCORPORATED ON JANUARY 29, 1988 FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING APPROPRIATE SCHOOLING TO JAPANESE SPEAKING STUDENTS IN THE HAMPTON ROADS AREA.THE SCHOOL OFFERS CLASSES IN JAPANESE LANGUAGE TO NON-JAPANESE SPEAKING STUDENTS FROM THE HAMPSTON ROADS AREA. SINCE ITS INCEPTION THE SCHOOL OFFERS COURSES TO PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO STUDY NATIONAL LANGUAGE (JAPANESE) AND "ARITHEMTIC/MATHEMATICS " BASED ON THE JAPANESE CURRICULUM GUIDELINE. CLASSES HAVE BEE
Program accomplishments
- NEWPORT NEWS JAPANESE SCHOOL PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL SERVICE TO THE STUDENTS IT SERVES. THIRTY FIVE STUDENTS WERE ENROLLED IN THE CLASS IN 2025. TUITION IS BASED ON THE LENGTH OF THE CLASS TIME. THE SCHOOL CHARGES $100 FIRST YEAR ENTRY FEE FROM ALL STUDENTS IN THE REGULAR PROGRAM. THE ANNUAL TUITION FOR THE STUDENTS IN KINDERGARTEN IS $1,100 AND FOR THE STUDENTS IN FIRST GRADE AND ABOVE IT IS $1,500. FOR NON-JAPANESE SPEAKING STUDENTS THE TUITION IS $800 FOR ALL CLASSES. THERE IS A $50 DISCOUNT FOR SECOND CHILD, $75 FOR THIRD CHID AND $100 FOR FOUTH CHILD. THESE FUNDS PROVIDE COMPENSATION TO INSTRUCTORS AND HELP PURCHASE SUPPLIES TO BETTER ASSIST IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS.Expenses $96,538
