Mission

SEE SCHEDULE O

990 for the year ended December 31, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • Youth Development: At the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to shine. Whether through our state-licensed summer camps or ACA-accredited overnight experiences, we create spaces where kids and teens can thrive academically, physically, and emotionally. In 2025, 84,690 youth participated in membership and programs, turning moments of fun into milestones of growth. As more families sought safe, enriching environments for their children, we rose to meet the demand. We provided $1,910,482 in financial assistance to 4,739 children because opportunity should never depend on income. Each child's experience is a step toward confidence, capability, and a brighter future. The Y's youth programs continually evolve to meet the needs of the community with many Ys offering access to youth sports, preschool, before and after school child care, summer day camp, overnight camp, martial arts, tumbling, dance, leaders clubs, swimming lessons, swim teams, plus neighborhood-specific programming that directly supports an individual city or community need.
    Expenses $22,796,659 · grants $33,250 · revenue $21,103,054
  • Social Responsibility: For 175 years, the YMCA has stood for service, equity, and belonging. In 2025, that commitment was as strong as ever. 10,985 families, or around 1 in 5 households, received financial support from the Y, reducing barriers to access to critical services. YMCA members' regular physical activity prevents an estimated 4,036 cases of heart disease and diabetes, significantly easing the strain on local healthcare systems (based on World Health Organization guidelines). Our six Health Equity Campuses remain open and active dedicated to reducing barriers and providing vital services. The Safety Around Water program reached 3,731 children with life-saving swim instruction and equitable access, including transportation support. Through initiatives like our fully donor-funded sponsor-a-teen membership program, which welcomed 1,657 teens aged 13-17, we're driving change and opening doors for youth across the region.
    Expenses $388,977 · grants $65,057 · revenue $584,443
  • Healthy Living: Health is more than fitness-it's community, connection, and resilience. At the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, we empower more than 250,000 individuals of all ages and abilities to live their healthiest lives through inclusive wellness programs, fitness classes, and tailored support for seniors and those managing chronic conditions. In 2025, our reach extended to 2.8 million visits. We provided $3,668,907 in membership subsidies to connect our neighbors with essential Y programs and services, ensuring better health is financially accessible to everyone. Five years post-pandemic, we continue to provide affordable wellness and enrichment programs through our Virtual Y platform, ensuring a connection to the Y is always available from anywhere. Standard business hours don't work for every family and the Y's 24-hour pass creates expanded access to healthy living at 18 YMCA locations.
    Expenses $26,930,972 · revenue $31,238,381
  • OTHER: In addition to our core areas of focus, the Y offers a wide range of programs and events that foster connection and lifelong learning. From adult enrichment and community trainings to golf tournaments and conferences, we're building inclusive experiences that bring people together and help them grow at every stage of life.
    Expenses $31,912 · revenue $70,920
