Mission
To inspire and empower people, especially children, to protect nature. Our mission is accomplished through conservation education programs, scientific studies on range-country threatened species, and community development activities.
Program accomplishments
- VIETNAM: College-educated volunteers ( > 70 since inception) receive training needed to conduct Little Green Guard conservation education lessons in rural but highly biodiverse areas in central Vietnam. Volunteers (> 100 since inception) create primary and secondary school curricula, as well as supporting educational materials such as teacher's guides and biologically-correct storybooks that highlight regional endangered species. Over 7,000 primary schoolchildren have benefited from these free lessons and materials. Additionally, volunteers conduct social and wildlife research studies to determine knowledge, attitude, and awareness of rural residents toward native threatened species and critical habitat.Expenses $84,254
- MADAGASCAR: In partnership with other agencies and NGOs, the communities in and around Anevoka are provided educational and livelihood opportunities. Specifically, more that 500 students annually benefit from lessons taught by our educators as part of the Little Green Guards education program. More than 100 women earn extra income through our GEM program.Expenses $28,519
- NEPAL: In Nepal over 60,000 students have participated in educational programs designed to understand and respect native wildlife. College volunteers (> 100 since inception) help design social and biological surveys needed to conduct the scientifically-based gap analysis necessary to design effective education and awareness campaigns targeted at saving threatened wildlife and critical habitats.Expenses $11,100
- OTHER: Support ($2,424) of a mature project in Kenya designed to deliver effective education programs, especially to young female students, in rural areas with high biodiversity. Support ($10,305) in the US of students to conduct independent conservation research projects, in particular on degradation of coral reefs.Expenses $12,729
