Mission
HELPING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES TO BE RESILIENT CLIMATE ADVOCATES THROUGH TRAINING, CIVIC ENGAGEMENT, OUTDOOR OPPORTUNITIES AND COMMUNITY BUILDING.
Program accomplishments
- COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECTS AND EVENTS - We fostered climate action and community resilience through a values-based, holistic approach that combines community, education, and collective action. We engaged 250+ CAF members and many more broader community members in diverse activities including 8 community potlucks and cultural celebrations, 5 art build events, many musical collaborations, 4 outdoor adventures, many meetings with elected officials, several community education events around cruise ship pollution, social media creation, personal relating workshops, 5 parades and marches, 2 news channel interviews, and much more. These events brought together diverse families and youth, strengthening collective power and building relationships essential to sustained, community-driven climate advocacy.Expenses $19,158
- INTRO TO CLIMATE JUSTICE TRAINING PROGRAM - Our classic FREE, youth-led day-long "Intro to Climate Justice Training" empowered participants with foundational knowledge of climate science and justice principles, and all of the diverse ways we can affect change together - from reforming institutions, to organizing, building solutions, resisting harmful activities, transforming ourselves and our society, and healing our communities and planet. We discussed emotions and coping skills, made art for events, learned chants and songs, spent time outdoors, and the youth made lots of friends. The program reached 44 new individuals through two training sessions held at the UW School of Social Work and trained 15 returning youth as peer facilitators, with 33% of participants from historically marginalized communities. Our program collected rich feedback from the youth which fed into programs for the next year. Courses also included a 90 minute parent program on youth mental health and the climate crisis attended by 30 parents.Expenses $24,382
- ELECTRIFY PROGRAM AND HEALTHY HOME FOR ALL - We coordinated statewide and regional partnerships to advance building electrification and environmental health, serving as the primary contact with the Pisces Foundation and managing collaboration among partner organizations. We convened monthly network meetings and project-specific working groups in Oregon and Montana. In Washington, we supported youth community education efforts alongside Shift Zero, providing public workshops and resources on electrification legislation - and successfully helped to pass an electric school bus bill. Youth participants beta tested and provided feedback on "The Switch is On Washington," a new state resource website, helping improve its usability and public engagement. The grant for this program was not renewed for 2025.Expenses $20,420
- YOUTH CLIMATE ADVOCACY DAY - We organized Youth Climate Advocacy Day to empower young people to engage directly with policymakers, climate justice organizations, and decision-makers on issues of climate justice. Participants learned advocacy skills, shared their perspectives on climate policy, attended and testified in hearings, and contributed youth voices to legislative conversations. Through this program, youth gained hands-on civic experience and strengthened their capacity to influence policies shaping a more equitable and sustainable future.Expenses $1,199
- OTHER PROGRAMS: Climate Grief & Empowerment: $600 revenue, $1200 expenses; UW School of Social Work Practicum Intern Program - hosted 2 masters student interns in the spring and 1 in the fall: $0 revenue, $792 expenses.Expenses $1,992
