Mission

To promote the spiritual mental and physical health of the community; to advance plant-based dietary education; to promote envirnmental conservation; and to use cut flower farming to repurpose blighted vacant land into beautiful and productive landscapes.

990 for the year ended December 31, 2024

Program accomplishments

  • Food is Medicine Cooking class and summer dinner series to promote healthy eating through a plant-based diet. We had previously received a grant for this activity to cover the costs. We were not able to get a grant for 2024. but decided to cover the programs csot and any loss ourselves.
    Expenses $1,400 · revenue $1,110
  • Plot Farmer Program - we offer space to farm compost straw amd mulch in return for 2 hours of volunteer works at the farm per week barter. There are expenses of course for compost, water straw when we cannot get it free. Expenses listed here is an estimate. We are on 2 acres sharing one water source. We never expect to make $ on this. We get something different - community involvement more people coming to our events and classes. More engaement.
    Expenses $1,300
  • Native Plants initiative. Educate and provide a local place for people to acquire native plants. We started our native plant nursery in 2018 and have grown the operation every year since. We now grow over 75 natives and overwinter them in oiur nursery and we are the only nursery in Detroit. There are other entities that acquire natives to sell during special sales. I do not know of another that actually grows the plants. This is of tremendous importance to retaining wildlife populations bees wasps birds etc. Our net revenue of $19357 exceeded 2023.
    Expenses $4,063 · revenue $19,357
