Mission
Our purpose is to exemplify through interfaith, multiracial, and multicultural membership, the principles of equality, justice, peace, unity, and cooperation, and to have a model for what is possible.
Program accomplishments
- Concerts - The choir performs at least once a year in the City of Portland. The choir, local respected musicians, and an audience of 200-300 people come together in a multi-racial, multi-faith, and all welcoming celebration. The result is a rare event that honors the tradition and legacy of black gospel music while serving to unify the larger community around the principles of equality and inclusiveness. Being our first concert since over 400 people at the concert.Expenses $3,497
- Community Outreach - We support organizations and events which align with our mission including Martin Luther King Celebrations and other events that celebrate Black Gospel Music.Expenses $7,975
- Rehearsals - Every week, the choir, director and pianist gather for a 2-3 hour rehearsal. In cooperation, the 40 plus members come together to learn about historical context of black gospel music, to learn new songs, and to practice the distinct rhythmic and vocal artistry of the music. As a result of this coming together, choir members are given the opportunity to live our mission. We join together in one inclusive community to elevate and celebrate the core values of cooperation, unity, peace and equality.Expenses $6,940
