Mission

YEHS owned and managed properties provide low-income housing.

990 for the year ended June 30, 2025

Program accomplishments

  • YEHS rental property provided affordable apartments to 100 individuals and families. Many of YEHS tenants are long-term. YEHS longest-term tenant has leased from YEHS for 49 years. YEHS owns a 15-unit complex known as the Compound which is made up of efficiency apartments. These are leased to single folks on a fixed income. YEHS sets the rents based on income. The average monthly rent is less than $300. Many of the apartments are leased to lifetime Soulardians including several, now retired, who were in YEHS first summer youth employment program. YEHS owns several storefronts which it leases to businesses below market. YEHS board members serve on the Board of Directors of Mardi Gras, Inc. which sponsors festivals in the Soulard neighborhood.
    Expenses $303,477 · revenue $260,245
  • Rental property management and maintenance services were provided to two real estate partnerships in which YEHS is a partner. These entities provided housing to 170 low and moderate income individuals and families. One partnership is a Section 8 project-based development housing 32 low-income families. The project has 12 4-bedroom townhomes, 12 3-bedroom townhomes, and 8 2-bedroom flats. YEHS partners with Humanitri, a local charity, to transition families from homeless shelters to longer-term transitional housing. Other tenants are long-term Soulardians. YEHS developed this project to help preserve an economic mix during Soulards gentrification. YEHS was also the developer/sponsor of the Allen Market Lane Apartments that provides rental units for the elderly with HUD rental assistance. This project was the first warehouse conversion to residential in the State of Missouri in 1979.
