Program accomplishments

  • DURING THE TAX YEAR, THE ST. JAMES COMMUNITY FOUNDATION CONTINUED ITS INAUGURAL PROJECT TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS AMONG YOUTH AGING OUT OF THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM. THIS UNDERSERVED POPULATION FACES SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES IN SECURING STABLE HOUSING, PARTICULARLY WITHIN THEIR HOME COUNTY. TO HELP ALLEVIATE THIS ISSUE, THE FOUNDATION HAS EMBARKED ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SMALL RESIDENTIAL VILLAGE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE TRANSITIONAL HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES. EFFORTS DURING THE YEAR INCLUDED COMMUNITY OUTREACH, SITE PLANNING, AND COLLABORATION WITH LOCAL PARTNERS TO ADVANCE THE PROJECT AND ENSURE THAT THESE YOUNG ADULTS CAN REMAIN IN A FAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT WHILE BUILDING INDEPENDENT LIVES.
  • IN ADDITION TO THE PRIMARY HOUSING PROJECT, THE ST. JAMES COMMUNITY FOUNDATION ENGAGED IN OTHER EXEMPT PURPOSE ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT YOUTH AGING OUT OF FOSTER CARE. THESE INCLUDED COMMUNITY EDUCATION EFFORTS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT THE CHALLENGES FACED BY THIS POPULATION, PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL COALITIONS FOCUSED ON YOUTH HOMELESSNESS, AND THE ESTABLISHMENT OF RELATIONSHIPS WITH SERVICE PROVIDERS TO COORDINATE FUTURE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES. THE FOUNDATION ALSO CONDUCTED FUNDRAISING AND GRANT WRITING ACTIVITIES TO SUPPORT ITS MISSION AND EXPAND ITS IMPACT.
