Mission

The vision of KHM is to glorify God through the redemption of our neighbors in prison by the gospel of Jesus Christ and their continued discipleship out of prison, thus reducing the recidivism rate. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the Christian inmate and the local church by facilitating the integration of the former inmate into the church, workplace, and society through biblical discipleship.

Program accomplishments

  • RADICAL TIME OUT (RTO): A weekly opportunity to experience the love of Christ in action-regardless of color, class, culture, crisis, or crime. RTO is a safe and encouraging community that welcomes family members of incarcerated individuals, volunteers, former inmates, those anticipating entering a correctional facility, and anyone seeking to learn more about KHM's ministry. Together we share an evening of fellowship, prayer, testimonies, Bible teaching, and-once a month-a shared meal. Average weekly attendance in 2025 was 78. A major highlight of the year was the very warm reception of Wellspring Alliance Church, which generously opened its facilities for RTO and strengthened the sense of welcome and belonging for all who attend. Program offerings in 2025 included many inspiring testimonies, a Seder celebration, quarterly School of Prayer teachings, signing 112 Christmas cards for inmates with connections to RTO, and monthly meals-many of which were lovingly provided by volunteers from Gary Church in Wheaton.
    Expenses $80,108
  • COOK COUNTY JAIL (CCJ): In 2025, the CCJ ministry-led by staff and approximately 25 volunteers-conducted five weekly worship services reaching multiple tiers of men and women in Divisions 3AX, 6, 9, and 11. Volunteers shared the hope of the gospel through worship, prayer, and Bible teaching. KHM distributed 5,000 Christmas gift bags to individuals in custody and 800 special gift bags to correctional staff, each containing Scripture-based materials and practical items, extending the message of Jesus far beyond the weekly services-a 79% increase in the number of people reached compared to the prior year. A special multi-tier event with Pastor Marco David deepened the impact of this outreach, by allowing some of the men who received his book, "Collateral Blessings," to hear directly from its author. Recognizing the vital role of correctional staff, KHM also hosted four appreciation meals in the divisions we regularly serve, offering comfort and spiritual support as well delicious food. Highlights for 2025 include the resumption of women's services, the launch of a discipleship class, and the beginning of worship services in Division 9, the men's super-max security unit. Across all men's divisions, 357 men participated, with over 3,000 total attendances, averaging 70 men per week.
    Expenses $71,051
  • BUILDING BRIDGES, RESTORING HOPE: KHM seeks to build bridges and restore hope for the incarcerated, those returning home, and their families. Program expenses support activities such as assisting families of detained individuals, educating the public on the needs of people returning to society from prison, and providing pastoral care to donor families and community partners. In 2025, KHM provided prayer support and resource connections for 45 individuals and families, including guidance during court dates, surrender processes, and visitation procedures. Several RTO participants supported a man and his family during his surrender and staff helped connect them to a local church. Staff also conducted weekly Bible studies with five women, offering discipleship and encouragement. KHM participated in 17 speaking engagements across 2 organizations and 10 churches in Illinois and Pennsylvania, including a session with pastors and leaders from Madison County, IL on ministry to the incarcerated. The CEO also participated in two podcast episodes of "Entre Amigos con Gerson Garcia," providing an opportunity to proclaim the hope of Jesus Christ and share about the ministry with Spanish speakers.
    Expenses $53,840 · grants $120
  • IN-PRISON MINISTRIES: In 2025, KHM's ministry to the incarcerated took place primarily within the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and the DuPage County Jail. The CEO made 54 pastoral visits with 15 men at the DuPage County Jail, and several volunteers also made regular visits. Staff responded to 51 inmate letters, providing encouragement, prayer support and biblical guidance. (Cook County Jail activities and expenses are reported separately in the CCJ program description.) KHM conducted two-day Prayer Conferences in four IDOC facilities and participated in seven IDOC Re-Entry Summits, offering biblical and practical preparation for returning citizens. Ministry highlights for 2025 include: * A return to ministry in Louisiana State Penitentiary (aka Angola) after five years. * Providing 100 ID lanyards to field ministers and a used 15-passenger van to Mississippi State Penitentiary (Parchman) to assist chaplains in transporting inmates to ministry functions across the 18,000-acre facility. * Supplying Bible study materials to Logan Correctional Center for the women's discipleship program. * Conducting monthly services at Sheridan Correctional Center and assisting a local church in launching its own monthly service there. * Leading four worship services at Danville Correctional Center.
    Expenses $51,551 · grants $5,671
  • KOINONIA HOUSE OF WHEATON: KHM provided financial assistance for operating expenses to its affiliate commonly known as Koinonia House of Wheaton, whose legal corporate name was Koinonia House of DuPage County. Although the residential program for men ended in 2020, the House continued to provide limited ministry through housing for two formerly incarcerated women and hosting weekly Bible studies for family members of incarcerated loved ones. In August 2025, the property was sold and all remaining ministry activities at the House were concluded.
    Expenses $23,552 · grants $5,686
  • MEET ME AT THE GATE: KHM coordinates church volunteers to meet individuals upon release from incarceration, offering mentorship, practical guidance, connection to a local church, and ongoing support through Radical Time Out. In 2025, 33 men were served through this ministry-some newly released and others continuing to face reentry challenges months or even years after returning home. Each received individualized support to help navigate the spiritual, relational, and practical needs of life after incarceration.
    Expenses $12,047 · grants $81
  • RADICAL PRAYER INITIATIVE: Persistent and powerful prayer is central to KHM's ministry. We desire for all believers-incarcerated and not-to grow in a deeper relationship with God our Father, through prayer modeled by Jesus and empowered by the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:1-13). As individuals grow in understanding of God's radical love for them, they grow in radical love for others, including those who are incarcerated, in crisis, or supporting loved ones behind bars. KHM's Board of Trustees holds a monthly prayer conference call and regularly meets in groups of two or three to bring ministry-related requests and praises before our Heavenly Father. In addition, a group of fathers gathers each Wednesday, both in person and via teleconference, to pray for their children. Highlights for 2025 include the dedication of a designated prayer room in KHM's new office space and the distribution of 780 copies of KHM's book "Radical Prayer" (155 in Spanish and 625 in English) to individuals, churches, and participants in nine correctional facilities. "Radical Prayer" was also made available on Audible in 2025. KHM conducted four two-day Prayer Conferences in correctional facilities (expenses reported under In-Prison Ministries).
    Expenses $9,882
