YAKIMA MUSIC EN ACCION (YAMA) GROWS CONFIDENT LEADERS THROUGHOUT NEIGHBORHOODS IT SERVES BY WIDENING ACCESS TO PROFESSIONAL LEVEL MUSIC LEARNING, IGNITING PRIDE, AND EMPOWERING STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.
Program accomplishments
- YAMA UTILIZES A RIGOROUS MODEL OF ENSEMBLE-BASED MUSIC EDUCATION WITH DUAL EMPHASES ON MUSICAL LITERACY AND COMMUNITY BUILDING IN NEIGHBORHOODS WITH GREATEST BARRIERS TO ACCESSING CONSISTENT AND HIGH QUALITY AFTER SCHOOL OPPORTUNITIES. 101 STUDENTS, AGES 8 TO 18, PARTICIPATED DAILY IN TUITION-FREE PROGRAMMING, TAUGHT BY PROFESSIONAL TEACHING ARTISTS, INCLUDING 4 PROGRAM ALUMNI. YAMA BUILDS MUSICAL LEADERSHIP AS WELL AS ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL SKILLS FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE INVOLVED, AND ALSO OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION ACCESS TO GRADUATING SENIORS.Expenses $457,162 · revenue $1,475
