Program accomplishments
- Technical Programs: The SFIA Technical Guide for Coldformed Steel Framing Products, provides a comprehensive tool for designing with coldformed steel framing members. Included are tables for section properties, allowable limiting wall heights (composite, non-composite, and curtain wall), combined axial and lateral loads, floor and roof joist spans, header loads, web crippling loads, and channel properties. In addition, the technical guides provides notes for fasteners (screws and welds), typical details, a guide to additional technical resources, as well as a useful explanation on reading fire rated assemblies.
- Industry Promotion: Cold-formed Steel Framing offers architects, builders and specifiers a range of features and benefits that all contribute to shorter construction times, lower material costs, safer structures, and faster revenue generation. Steel is strong, safe, durable, versatile and cost-effective. Steel has the exceptional environmental advantage of being highly recycled and infinitely recyclable. Steel is tough and does not rot, spawl, split or absorb moisture and is resistant to pests unlike other building materials. And from an aesthetic or architectural viewpoint, steel structures can easily deliver creative design options and excellent value.
- Education: The Steel Framing Industry Association has established video-based educational programs designed to help members and others stay on top of the issues affecting the cold-formed steel industry. Course topics encompass a wide scope of technical, sales/marketing, and management issues, and target varying levels of experience to serve everyone from the construction professional just learning about cold-formed steel to the seasoned manager who wants to increase business planning effectiveness.
