Program accomplishments

  • To cultivate, promote, foster, and develop the advancement of the Tamil language, TSCI operates a Tamil School that is fully run by dedicated volunteers. The school educates approximately 105 students, ranging from Pre-K to 12th grade. Classes are held once a week for about two hours. • To promote fellowship and perpetuate Tamil language and culture, TSCI organizes social and cultural events to celebrate major Tamil festivals. Operating on a membership model, TSCI welcomes anyone with an interest in Tamil language and culture to join. Additionally, TSCI receives sponsorship from local businesses, which helps support its activities. Each year, TSCI conducts four or more cultural events, funded by membership and sponsorship fees. These events attract approximately 400 to 600 Tamil patrons from the central Indiana region. The events are organized and conducted entirely by volunteers, demonstrating the strong community spirit within TSCI. Additionally, TSCI provides volunteering opportunities for young people through its Youth Volunteer Committee, fostering leadership and community engagement among the younger generation. During these gatherings, children participate in competitions such as Tamil speech, drawing, and chess, and showcase performances in singing, dancing, and traditional Tamil martial arts. Typically, each event lasts about six hours, with food and beverages provided to all attendees.
    Expenses $62,627 · grants $56,419
  • To support underprivileged children in Tamil Nadu, TSCI collects donations from patrons in the Central Indiana region and contributes the funds to the Anbalayam project, which is run by the Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF). TNF is a nonprofit organization established in 1974 by a group of Americans of Tamil origin who sought to help people from their native province of Tamil Nadu, India. Donations are collected throughout the year, from January to December. At the start of the following year, TSCI consolidates the contributions and writes a check to TNF in January, ensuring the funds are directed toward the Anbalayam project.
