Program accomplishments

  • The annual Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival Season hosts the annual Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival in July. As an educational organization, CVCM engages the community through a one-week summer music festival comprised of three (3) unique concerts. Each festival season revolves around a central theme meant to engage the public imagination. These low-cost concert events are performed at different venues where artists talk about and perform music from different times and places in world history. In 2024, 268 people attended these concerts in various community venues.
    Expenses $39,471 · grants $10,377
  • CVCM has a strong outreach component to its mission that is based primarily on low-income, age and location. Each year CVCM offers several free community concerts to the general public in Waterloo and Cedar Falls, Iowa, and in surrounding rural Iowa communities. CVCM also engages area youth through concerts in area schools, libraries and through its annual string camp for youth in grades 7-12. Lastly, CVCM has a continuing partnership with several area retirement communities and conducts regular free outreach performances for retirees and assisted living members of the Cedar Valley Community. In 2024, 8 outreach concert performances were given, and 325 individuals attended these concerts.
    Expenses $11,043 · grants $2,903
  • For the past five years, CVCM has offered a one-week day camp to area instrumental string and woodwind players that teaches fundamentals of chamber music and offers technique classes. Student participants receive daily coaching, interact with professional musicians, and perform for their parents and relatives at the end of the string camp week. The string camp hosted 17 students in 2024.
    Expenses $6,333 · grants $1,665
  • During times of the year apart from the one-week summer music festival, CVCM also provides a variety of musical offerings to the community to further increase arts awareness in the Cedar Valley. In 2024, 3 such events took place:1. A free Valentine-themed concert in February, given at a local center, which attracted 70 attendees.2. A concert in a downtown business in June, which suggested a free will offering and attracted 18 attendees, and3. A house concert in a private residence in November, which required a ticket for a small fee, and attracted 21 attendees.
