Mission
To promote creative efforts leading to the formulation in the light of contemporary knowledge of effective doctrines and practices for human welfare. To formulate dynamic and positive relationships between the concepts developed by science and the goals and hopes of humanity expressed through religion. To state human values and contemporary knowledge in universal and valid terms that they may be understood by all peoples whatever their cultural background and experience and provide a basis for world-wide cooperation.
Program accomplishments
- Conducted weeklong conference titled Spiritual Experience: A Scientific Philosophical and Theological Retreat In recent decades we have seen an increase in scientific philosophical and theological research focused on the processes involved in spiritual transformation. This has generated a more comprehensive science-based understanding including physical psychological and substance-induced approaches that promote intentional opening to spiritual experience. There is evidence that we have a spiritual core central and innermost biologically wired into us that is normally outside of awareness that there are ways to open and engage that core and that when people open to that awareness they often describe the experience as mystical or numinous.Expenses $38,655
- Sponsored monthly series of webinars covering a wide range of topics related to the intersection of science and religion. 200 to 300 viewers per month with previous sessions available for streaming from the IRAS website.Expenses $940
- Coincident with our annual conference we provided an educational youth program known as Archipelagos, for children of conference attendees from two years old through high school.Expenses $8,119
