Mission
Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) is a global nonprofit organization with a mission to advance every person's journey to learn, work, and be well. Working closely with public-sector and private partners, EDC achieves lasting impact by evaluating, advancing, and leading effective solutions.
Program accomplishments
- International Development Division In 2025, EDC's international work advanced the organization's mission and four ambitions stated above. We have continued to bring in new work from non-U.S. federal funders in the areas of health, youth and workforce development, basic education, and crisis/conflict contexts. Thirteen new projects were awarded in countries including Liberia, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Vietnam, Lesotho, and Nepal. Key highlights from activities and new projects from the year include: A. Strengthening the quality of pre-service and in-service teacher training in secondary education across Liberia to increase access and completion, raise learning outcomes with a focus on science, technology, and mathematics, prepare future and work-ready youth, and strengthen the capacity of the education system to manage and supervise teacher professional development. B. Continuing to build the portfolio of EDC's Learning Generation Initiative projects to empower the people within and connected to education systems around the world to enable all children to be learning within a generation, by focusing on three areas of transformation (1) strengthening and creating a more collaborative education workforce; (2) increasing effective investment in school health and nutrition; and (3) improving system delivery. An example of a recent project is our work with the government of Lesotho to lay the foundation for a financing strategy and undertake preparatory analysis for a paper on investment in school feeding. C. Consulting with the World Bank to develop science, technology, and mathematics teacher activity guides and accompanying teacher training modules for Grades 5 and 6. D. Expanding our activities in the Philippines on a data-driven entrepreneurship and training of young agripreneurs by using AI and apps to support the design of agricultural community data collection. E. Presenting multiple sessions at the 2025 ADEA Triennale on Education and Training in Africa and 2025 Education and Development Forum Conference in Oxford, England where our education experts shared evidence, partnerships, and pathways for strengthening systems and improving learning outcomes.Expenses $48,556,709 · grants $17,002,602
- U.S. Division: U.S. Division In 2025, EDC's work in the United States advanced the organization's mission and four ambitions stated above. Our teams expanded work in maternal and child health, early childhood education, behavioral health (e.g., mental health promotion, addiction and suicide prevention), STEM education and workforce development, and research and evaluation. Over 70 new projects were awarded. Key highlights from activities and new projects from the year include: A. Launching innovative work to improve STEM workforce readiness and success, including (1) partnering with Google to co-develop and publish the first profile of an AI-Enhanced Software Developer, which provides industry and education partners with a road map to "future proof" developers who are entering the field; (2) beginning work with community colleges to build AI literacy in the U.S. workforce; and (3) publishing our new AI interaction framework that helps teachers foster students' AI fluency. B. Expanding our work to improve maternal and child health by (1) advancing integration of doulas, midwives, and birth centers into maternal health systems; (2) promoting national maternal and child health leadership; (3) improving access to care for infants with prenatal substance exposure; and (4) presenting 10 invited, intensive sessions at the three-day National Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting All-Grantee Meeting. C. Continuing work to ensure STEM proficiency for PreK-12 learners by publishing a new toolkit to expand computer science education, leading computer science expos, and rolling out new deliverables from the Data Paths, Math for All, and Amgen Biotech Experience initiatives. We also launched new projects including (1) R&D to integrate computer science in elementary math in 12 schools in four states; and (2) R&D to promote the STEM learning of teens who spend significant time in medical care facilities. D. Expanding our leadership in promoting well-being by (1) co-developing a new online interactive PTSD Treatment Decision Aid; (2) growing our successful Multi-Tiered Suicide Prevention for Schools services; (3) and delivering new trainings, services, and resources through National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention, Zero Suicide Institute at EDC, Suicide Prevention Resource Center, and Community-Led Suicide Prevention Academy-improving outcomes for millions of people at risk of suicide. E. Leading and co-leading initiatives to prevent substance misuse and address co-occurring behavioral health challenges such as (1) Northeast and Caribbean Technology Transfer Center (PTTC); (2) Great Lakes PTTC; (3) Digital Wellness Collaborative; (4) Strategic Plan to Address Older Adults' Prescription Drug Misuse; (5) Strategic Prevention Technical Assistance Center; (6) Behavioral Health Excellence Technical Assistance Center; and (6) Massachusetts Center of Excellence on Problem Gambling Prevention. F. Continuing to grow our early childhood work, including (1) bringing EDC's First 10 initiative to 17 Alabama communities; and (2) continuing our 11 years of leading a statewide early childhood quality improvement initiative that has provided 14,000+ TA/coaching sessions reaching 12,000+ early childhood educators. G. Leading research, including (1) publishing findings on how podcasts can help parents support children's learning; (2) beginning two new evaluations focused on workforce development; and (3) continuing our work to improve education by leading the Regional Educational Laboratory Northeast & Islands for the Institute of Education Sciences.Expenses $90,176,745 · grants $16,871,059 · revenue $934,330
