Mission
THE ORGANIZATION'S MISSION IS TO PROMOTE AND DISSEMINATE INFORMATION AND MATERIALS, TRAIN TRAINERS AND PARTICIPANTS IN AN INTERVENTION TO IMPROVE THE PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL AND SPIRITUAL HEALTH OF WOMEN, ESPECIALLY WOMEN OF COLOR AND AFRICAN DESCENT. THE MAIN PRODUCT FOR THIS WORK IS THE PRIME TIME SISTER CIRCLES (PTSC) WHICH FOCUSES ON CHANGING THE KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIOR OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN ON THEIR HEALTH IN MIDLIFE. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO PROVIDES SKILLS AND TOOLS TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE NEEDED TO CHANGE HABITS OF DISEASE INTO HABITS OF HEALTH.
Program accomplishments
- GPHIC IS CONDUCTING PRIME TIME SISTER CIRCLES (PTSC), OUR INNOVATIVE, CURRICULUM- AND COMMUNITY-BASED, HOLISTIC, THIRTEEN-WEEK SUPPORT GROUPS, FOR UNDERSERVED, LOW-INCOME BLACK WOMEN, I.E., AFRICAN AMERICANS, AFRICANS, CARIBBEANS, LESBIANS, AND SENIORS. THE OBJECTIVES ARE TO INCREASE KNOWLEDGE, IMPROVE ATTITUDES, AND CHANGE BEHAVIORS RELATED TO HYPERTENSION, STRESS, AND DEPRESSION. PTSC WILL EMPOWER PARTICIPANTS TO CONTROL THEIR BLOOD PRESSURE BY PROMOTING PREVENTIVE HEALTH CARE, PROVIDING SCREENING AND MONITORING OF BLOOD PRESSURE AND WEIGHT, TEACHING STRATEGIES FOR MANAGING STRESS, INCREASING PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, AND IMPROVING NUTRITION.Expenses $55,360 · revenue $55,359
