District marching competitions are held at several sites throughout the state and marching championships for bands receiving superior ratings are held approximately three weeks later at various sites in the state to allow for bands to compete against other bands of similar size. In the fall of 2024 hundreds of high school bands competed in the district competitions and approximately 80 bands competed in the championship level competitions. Students from different size schools from throughout the state attend where they meet other students audition and are placed in one of three different bands based on musical ability. In the fall of 2024 over 200 students participated in the band clinic. The Bandmasters invites guest clinicians and conductors from Mississippi and the United States to lead instruct and conduct the various bands and teach instructional sessions for students to improve their musical skills. Board members have a week to review Form 990 and submit any questions. Board member questions are answered prior to filing of Form 990. If Form 990 is changed due to board member questions board members are sent a revised draft copy of Form 990 with changes noted. This process is repeated until board members have approved the draft copy for filing with the IRS. Board members are also prohibited from seeking payment for services provided within or outside of the responsibilities as board members. Expenditures are monitored and reviewed for compliance with the conflict of interest policy. Any violation of the conflict of interest policy would result in disciplinary actions up to and including being removed from the governing body and repayment of funds.
