The Board implemented a multi-step evaluation process that included: 1. Comparative Analysis: We identified local nonprofit organizations with similar size, scope, and mission within our region. 2. Market Research: We collected compensation data from publicly available Form 990s of comparable organizations and utilized the comprehensive Virginia Nonprofit Sector Report's regional salary survey. 3. Benchmarking: Based on this research, we established a competitive compensation range of $190,000-$260,000 for the Executive Director position. 4. Individual Assessment: The Board evaluated our Executive Director's specific qualifications, experience, performance metrics, and leadership contributions. 5. Financial Consideration: We balanced competitive compensation with our organization's financial position. The Board documented this deliberative process and approved a compensation package that falls within the established market range, appropriately valuing executive leadership while demonstrating fiscal responsibility. This process was last undertaken for the Executive Director position in 2024.
