We are exempt under the mutual benefit theory. The club sponsored 4 major ski trips. The club arranged hotel lodging and social activities for its members on the trip. Income received from members for trip sign-up was used to pay for lodging, and a social gathering on each trip was paid from club funds, which in each case was minor. The club sponsored 3 formal social events, a Spring into Summer Annual Meeting, a Membership Gathering in the fall, and a Christmas Gathering. Two of these events were at member's homes, to reduce costs. We also coordinated over 100 informal hikes, bike rides, and social events. The club maintains a website from Club Express, a software vendor, and a Facebook page to promote year round social activities and member communications. The "rewards" are converted to a cash deposit in the last month of the fiscal year. Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16 Our largest expense is lodging paid to ski resorts to reserve lodging for our ski trips. Our trips are budgeted at net zero, and if the trip is filled, the net zero holds. Our other expenses are covered by membership dues. In an effort to get more members, we reduced our annual member fee to $40, choosing to cover any shortfall from our accumulated funds.
