<DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>Indigenous Cultural Concepts: Annual Report 2025 for Media Island International - Our year has gone by so fast, the summer has been extremely hot, with need for water being more sever than ever. We were able to get two community support resolutions passed at the local level which are Black Falls and Hardrock -Big Mountain communities to to get deep wells which is to add to piping to go deeper into the ground water, as water table drops we have to dig deeper. Currently, we are stuck as to which jurisdiction the Black Falls is in and we also have to get water testing done for human consumption to see how much uranium and other toxins may make it undrinkable. The Big Mountain well needs to get water testing done and set up with new filtering system and have the additional piping done. In this area we will continue to work with these two communities until completed. For now, we are continuing to haul water for human consumption for the support of families. The fall food drive was one of the best we've had in a long time, enough food and supplies was passed out and a lot more extra for the winter. The wood hauling camps were in two different areas of the Black Mesa region and were a success too. With more community members passing on it has made the numbers easier to address the needs, these wood hauling project are 2-3 camp outs to collect and cut fire wood for families and we still have no electricity or running water, after 150 plus years after being forced to live on Reservations and still don't have the very basics. We still have to haul water from over 30 miles away in barrels, still have to gather fire wood to stay warm and cook on. In this area we are hosting two meetings to identify how many families need housing improvement or which ones just need a whole new home, which we are working with Navajo Nation housing department to provide. We are on the move with Traditional Knowledge Holders, with who we are able to advocate for clean Air, Water and Environmental Justice in the face of the current trump administration. It has not been easy with the tribal government which is going right along with energy extraction and development of what little resources there are and the contamination of water, land and the environment. They are not considering what we have been exposed to already, such as the uranium waste crisis and there is no accountability at all with the roll backs of all the environmental laws. This is a big question for most of us? We assist with ceremonial prayers for the Environment, Water, Air and Sacred sites. Our skill building workshops continues such as the youth workshops and hands on skill building using local sustainable materials -in the coming season we are working on a Art center and innMay we will host Pottery making and in June we will be hosting wool felt making workshops and in July- Sept 2026 we hope to be gathering of wild foods and learning food and holding medicine preservation workshops. Currently, there is a demand for old uranium mines to be reopened even though there has been over 525 abandoned mines with not much clean up, in the process environmental health and public health is being overlooked, which raises big concerns at the community level and on going public meetings which question the whole process. We are looking to hold a few public meetings and calling for accountability by the U.S. Forrest Service , EPA and States and Tribal Government. This Project will continue to look for other funding source to keep educating and provide skill building. <DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>THE WOMEN OF COLOR IN LEADERSHIP MOVEMENT (www.facebook.com/The-Women-of-Color-in-Leadership-Movement- The Women of Color in Leadership Movement (WCLM), was founded in 2015 and became sponsored by Media Island in 2016, within that short time we were able to accomplish much of our goals for the year that helped us build our foundational roots. We have been able to have monthly support group meetings, and support one another with shared resources, ideas, fundraising, training and organizing. WCLM has participated in various cultural events that support our communities, such as our local community organizers and their events. Our newly developed partnerships connect with both local and international organizations that focus on women of color and their empowerment and leadership. We have participated in community meetings having to do with a local that would the focus of highlighting Black pioneers,(The Rebecca Howard Park) and have been able to send some of our members to these events. We have been able to support our members in leading their own workshops and presentations as well as supported them in their cultural artistic efforts. We have also been able to offer some support to students of the Evergreen State College, who were affected by the current racial tensions on campus, and in the community of Olympia. Our future goal is to bring more guest speakers such as bell hooks, Tim Wise, spokesperson and activist on racial issues, as well as women from our local Native tribes. These speakers would be able to address many of the issues around race, class, and gender, as well as the effects of colonization on Black and Brown peoples. We also hope to send a group of the women to conferences and workshops statewide and to able to make international connections as well to help foster their resiliency tools. The funds the WCLM received from Media Island breakdown as follows: $23,000</DescriptionProgramSrvcAccomTxt>

<ExplanationTxt>MEDIA ISLAND INTERNATIONAL - Our podcast development is still in the works. Many people travel to participate in the cultural offerings of Media Island International. Such as our annual Juneteenth Festival Celebration. People come not only from Olympia and the surrounding area but Tacoma and Portland as well. Like The Negro Motorist Green Book, this project will create a network of safe, accessible green spaces and services for the underserved Black community in Olympia. By providing information on community gardens, Black-owned farms, and other green spaces outside of Olympia, and Tacoma and Portland, the project broadens the community's access to safe travel destinations, green space, and essential services. Resources in the map will also include Olympia-based job training at Black-owned businesses, youth participation in cultural events, services for families, and education on emergency management, safety, and indoor air quality. We hope to be able to continue this work, in order to help with the positive development of our community. MEDIA ISLAND INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY - Media Island International maintains and is working to improve a Pro-Active Library and cultural center here in Olympia, Washington's Books, magazines, journals, video and audio tapes, files as well as hard copy files of documents and books on subjects relating to the organization's mission, including cultural survival, human and civil rights, international law, women's issues, racial inequality, and more.</ExplanationTxt>
