Activities include conducting voter registration drives, welcoming new citizens, and speaking to school and community groups about voting procedures and ways to be an informed voter. Materials, such as pamphlets and bookmarks, are provided to volunteers to distribute during the voter registration drives. A monthly bulletin is published and sent via email to members and is also available on the website. Additionally, the League compiles and distributes Candidates Answers, which gives information about candidates who have filed for office and about ballot issues. Funds may be withdrawn annually (subject to a formula and approved by the board) to support normal operations. Withdrawals in excess of the prescribed percentage requires approval by the membership. Line 1e, Other Expenditures of $29,458 in the current year column consists of distributions to support normal operations, related to the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Schedule D, Part VI, Line 1d Copier, purchased November 2023 Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 4 As part of the 2025 annual meeting, the membership approved amendments to the bylaws. Due to a change in the national league's procedures regarding the payments and renewal process for memberships, LWVDC was required to amend its bylaws. Prior to this change, members renewed on a fiscal year basis from July 1 to June 30 each year. Membership dues were paid to LWVDC, who in turn transferred a portion to the national and state leagues. The new method has members renewing on their respective anniversary dates; dues payments are remitted directly to national, who then transfers a portion to the respective state and local leagues. Other bylaw amendments were administrative in nature and included the following changes: procedures for filling vacant positions on the board, change in the composition of the standing committees, and the procedure for determining program topics. The amendments shall be submitted to the membership in writing at least thirty days in advance of the meeting. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b Prior to filing the 990 with the IRS, the President and Treasurer review the full tax return; the public disclosure copy is shared with the organization's Finance Committee and the remaining Board of Directors. The document resides in a Google drive file and is available to both groups. In connection with any actual or possible reported conflict of interest, an interested person must disclose the existence of the interest and be given the opportunity to disclose all material facts to the directors and members of committees with governing body delegated powers. After disclosure of the interest and all material facts, the interested person shall leave the governing body or committee meeting while the determination of a conflict of interest is discussed and voted upon by the remaining directors or committee members. The governing body or designated committee conducts periodic reviews to ensure that the organization does not engage in activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status. In prior years when an Executive Director was hired, a salary guide completed by a local consulting service for nonprofits within the region was consulted for comparative data in setting the salary of the then Executive Director.
