During the year, the Organization obtained 12 new easements covering 2,038 acres of land. Part II, Line 9: Conservation easements are comprised of listed rights and/or restrictions over owned property that are conveyed by a property owner to NYALT. The property owner gives up certain rights but retains ownership of the property. The Organization has an interest in the encumbered property that runs with the land. The restrictions are binding on the property owner and any future owners of the property. Conservation easements, by their very nature, do not grant material amounts of cash inflow annually. Management believes that these easements carry no measurable value. Accordingly, no value has been recorded on the financial statements. The easements impose a perpetual obligation to NYALT to monitor and steward the properties, the cost of which are an ongoing expense.
