This included social media updates describing community conversations that were shaped into safety circles. We also submitted a grant to the Minnesota Department of Health's Regional Health Equity Network Program to evaluate outcomes of these circles, to inform next steps in program development. Our Housing Foundations pillar received minimal attention; primarily in the form of sharing our supported housing aspirations for feedback from community members, during safety circle activities. Remaining activities focused our Creative Voice pillar, in which we developed emotions and respect monitoring decks for evaluation of the safety circles, and therapeutic purposes, at home. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b This form was reviewed by our President and Vice President in person, where questions could be answered. It was also shared electronically for accessibility purposes. Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15 While the same methods for determining Executive Director compensation were used in 2020 and 2021, revenue was insufficient in 2022. Thus, the Executive Director shifted to a volunteer status until such time as revenue is again sufficient to provide reasonable compensation. Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19 We have published both a website and social media presence where community members can reach out via either email or direct message for more information about our nonprofit, including budgetary and tax information. We were established in August 2020, and were not able to submit our 501c3 application until September 2021. COVID delayed approval until June 2022, when we were neck deep in our seed grant. We were able to prep our 990 for 2020, and began prepping our 2021 990, in anticipation of filing them with our 2022 990 in May 2023. However, by May 2023 we were eyeballs deep in our first sizable grant, were struggling to verify proper invoicing expectations, and the constant need to redesign our workplan due to problems that began with 3.5 months delay in signing the grant contract, and further delays in receiving payment, due to impact of contract delays on business banking. This was retraumatizing for our health equity team, working in Indian country, where historical delays in promised resources are a part of the historical traumas being faced. Delays in signing the contract and sending first payment resulted in our primary banking account closing for sitting empty, and so our first payment had to be snail mailed and deposited into a far less ideal backup account. These, and the nature of our health equity work prevented us from attending to our 990s, as our time was eaten up managing the grant, including getting paychecks out to team members in need, without shorting them reimbursement costs due to the extremely convoluted policy on food costs. The grant delays further led to a forced grant audit, as an extension was granted with audit strings attached. This the next amount of time that was supposed to be reserved for 990s. Grantor staff turnover interfered with our ability to learn how to properly complete the audit, as a new nonprofit and first time grant recipient working with the Minnesota Department of Health. New requirements to file 1099s electronically in 2024 further taxed our severely limited accounting resources, as we were prepared for paper filing of about 20 team members, and missed notification of the 1099 filing requirements change. Our grant was originally supposed to end 5.31.23, allowing us to minimize delay in submission of our 990s. It actually ended 5.31.24, with the extension, final invoicing was submitted 6.30.24, and needed recovery time to manage health flares (PTSD and fibromyalgia). Thus, this is the first opportunity we've had to turn our attention back to our 990s, and track down information on new electronic filing requirements for this form, as well. Information for 2020 has been removed from the IRS website, which further delayed submission our first/2020 990. After submitting federal and state 990 for 2020, we learned that MN requires the most recent 990, counter to our plan that we move in order from first to most recent year. This has further delayed submission of our 2021 990, as skipping to 2024 is too much for our limited capacity. Thus, we needed to complete 2021, 2022, AND 2023, before submitting 2021. This is the best we can do to accurately manage cumulative tax forms with our minimal resources, as a very small nonprofit established just months after the COVID shutdowns began. We've been riding the domino effect of waves ever since, while living with multiple chronic illnesses/disabilities that impact paperwork timelines, even without a pandemic.
